Proposal to rename featured article templates[edit]
At the moment, there are 3 similar-sounding templates that do 3 very different things: Template:Feature (which contains the introduction of the current featured article and is used on the main page), Template:Featured article (a currently unused template that randomly selects an article to feature), and Template:Featured (which is the box at the top/bottom of featured articles). When searching for featured article templates, this is very confusing. I think these templates should be renamed to reduce this confusion. Template:Feature should become Template:Featured article (static), Template:Featured article should become Template:Featured article (random), and Template:Featured should become Template:Featured article notice. Redirects with the old names should remain for all of these to not break past versions of pages or require changing all the past featured articles. - I agree that legibility matters, though almost nobody accesses these pages. Maybe some less verbose names? — {EspyoT} 15:07, June 22, 2021 (EDT)
- Because renaming templates introduces compatibility problems, I ended up adding a disambiguation notice to the unused Template:Featured article. That should fix the problem enough. — Soprano(talk) 22:42, September 28, 2021 (EDT)
