Assumtion in the Swedish "names in other languages" section[edit]
So, basically, the current "names in other languages" section says that the Swedish version is "skeppsbruten" and that the translation from that is "Shipwrecked". However, there's nowhere on the box that it says the word "skeppsbruten", only "skeppsbrutna". Now, "skeppsbruten" is a real word, and so is "skeppsbrutna", and "skeppsbruten" is when there's 1, while "skeppsbrutna" is when there's more than 1, or 0. But, again, it says nowhere that That's the case. It's Kinda like the Spectralids/Spectralid situation, but with a real word. I don't really know how to feel, other people can decide. – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mama09001 • (talk) • (contribs) August 7th, 2024
- I'm the Swedish speaker who added that translation. I don't think we can compare this situation to the Spectralids question; "Spectralids" is a new coinage specific to the Pikmin series, whereas the Swedish term "skeppsbruten" has existed as a nominalized adjective for hundreds of years. Any deviation from the pattern "en skeppsbruten" -> "flera skeppsbrutna" would be seen as an error (and a very weird one at that), so there's no danger in assuming that translators follow it as they would in any other context.
