Move to Wooden gate[edit]
I believe that we should move Bramble gate to Wooden gate because of the fact that the wooden gate name was sometimes used in the Offical Player's Guide for Pikmin, meaning that it is an official name for the obstacle.Twins1105 (talk) 20:03, November 21, 2024 (EST)
- "Bramble gate" is also an official name for the obstacle, being used in the Prima guide, but I agree that "Wooden gate" is a better name because the gate isn't made of brambles. (This topic has been discussed before at Talk:Gate; in my previous comment on this topic there I said that the name "Bramble gate" had become too established to rename, but now I think renaming it is OK.) — Soprano(talk) 16:43, November 22, 2024 (EST)
- I disagree. I think having the article remain as "Bramble gate" is fine. The name has been established for too long to warrant a name change. Additionally, for me personally, the gates look more 'bramble-like' than wooden, just because of how tangled and twisty the design is. -Chazmatron, signing off! (TALK) 13:50, January 26 2025 (GMT)
- I really do not think the name being used in the community for years is a good reason to not use a name that had been used in offical media, even if it isn't in the games. To me, it would be like not renaming The Wollywog pages to Wollyhop because the former was used far more often than the latter until Pikmin 1+2. Plus, I don't really see it as bramble-like, if anything it kinda looks like stone or dirt? That would line up with its Japanese name apparently being dirt wall. - I again disagree. I know "wooden gate" has been said in the Guide Books, but then "bramble gate" has been mentioned in the Prima books, which are both official. But in cases like this, the name's been around for years at this point. I feel like most Pikmin fans refer to the wall as a bramble gate, or at least people I speak to refer to it as that. Changing it now, more than a decade after it's been called this, is likely to be confusing to most players no? I don't think using the Wollyhop/Wog example works in this case. I'd argue it'd work similar to Pyramid Head as the proper name for him is Red Pyramid Thing, yet no one refers to him as that. If the article gets renamed, it gets renamed. But I think it would just confuse a lot of people. Chazmatron, signing off! (TALK) 15:20, January 26, 2025 (GMT)
- If the Prima Guide is also an official source, then it should stay as "Bramble gate" as it's more commonly referred as that name to begin with. But if it were to be moved to "Wooden gate", I think it should at least mention that Prima calls them "Bramble gates" to prevent potential confusion. Dolphinius (talk) 11:08, January 26, 2025 (EST)

In a discussion on the Discord server, it was considered whether to merge this article with the Dirt wall article. This is because Japanese guidebooks consistently refer to this type of gate as a dirt wall, and because the texture of the gate looks like dirt. Twins1105, 2 B, and PopitTart advocated for calling these gates dirt walls. I advocated against this, because I thought that calling these gates "dirt walls" would be confusing because they don't look and sound like dirt. We discussed whether it was more accurate to consider the dirt walls in Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 4 to be a redesign of the gates in Pikmin and Pikmin 2, or whether it was more accurate to consider them a different type of obstacle with the same basic function. I also mentioned that the current Bramble gate and Dirt wall articles document quite different things, and that merging the articles would cause many different mechanics to be documented on the same page. — Soprano(talk) 19:46, January 26, 2025 (EST)
