The voyage log in Pikmin 3 is a daily log typed by one of the three main explorers of Pikmin 3. Much like Olimar's voyage log from Pikmin, they can detail events that occur during the day. They are different for each player, as they are written according to what was done or accomplished. If no significant events are accomplished during the day, a random entry from a list of several miscellaneous filler entries is chosen.

Every log entry is signed by the writer at the end. Below is a transcript of all voyage logs, as taken from the game's files. As such, the requirements needed and the writers for some of these are not known, and are merely speculative according to the entry's text. Underscores ("_") represent a variable number, like the number of fruit types gathered.

Plot[edit]

Only the latest possible entry is chosen for each day, as sorted in this list. For instance, if the leaders saw the Armored Mawdad, but also defeated it in the same day, the entry log will be for defeating it.

Before the start[edit]

  • US text: We're shipwrecked on this planet! Some creatures called Pikmin helped me find the S.S. Drake, but our cosmic-drive key is nowhere to be found! We won't be going anywhere without that... Luckily, I made contact with Brittany and will set out to find her tomorrow. When I took off in the ship, the Onion took flight as well. Odd...but amazing!
  • Europe text: Here we are, shipwrecked! Now we'll never get all of the planet's food! I made it back to the SS Drake with the help of some strange creatures called Pikmin, but the cosmic drive key was nowhere to be found!   • US text: A Fruit Jamboree / I discovered a food source! Such a juicy slice of joy for all of Koppai! The Drake must still analyze, but the sweet taste of hope dances its way across the tip of my ticklish tongue. For now, I do declare that all shall kick their heels in a giant fruit jamboree!

  • US text: According to the Drake's equipment, the plant I brought back is an edible fruit! That means we can store the juice for our own food supply! Not only that, but we can also take the seeds back home and use those as a food resource. The more seeds we take home, the more people we'll be able to save on Koppai! Hm. Maybe there is something to this "recycling" thing...

Discovered Rock Pikmin[edit]

  • US text: The Onions go airborne when the sun sets. This must be a defense mechanism against nocturnal predators. I was surprised that the Rock- and Red- Pikmin Onions combined into one when the Drake took off. Guess the color differences don't mean much to them. Interesting...

  • US text: Analyzing the recovered fruit back at the Drake, it was deemed suitable for Koppaite consumption. There's got to be more where that came from. Also, it looks like these hard-bodied Rock Pikmin are sticking around, which is good news. With their help, I'm sure I'll be able to reach Brittany soon.

Saw the Armored Mawdad's tree stump[edit]

  • US text: We discovered a mysterious broadcast signal... What on Koppai could it be? It might be our captain, but something tells me that it could be related to that person who has been leaving all of those data files for us. I'll have to find out tomorrow. The suspense is killing me!

Got Olimar's data file before the Armored Mawdad[edit]

Saw the Armored Mawdad[edit]

  • US text: We encountered some sort of gigantic creature in a dark, dank cave. Attacks from the Red Pikmin have no effect on the monster's tough exoskeleton. It seems that the mysterious signal we've been tracking is actually emanating from inside the creature! Gross! We'll have to defeat it to get to the bottom of this. I have a feeling this isn't going to be pretty.

  • US text: We followed the captain's signal into a desolate tundra. Due to poor visibility, I mishandled the ship, and uh...well, I lost control, and...Brittany was thrown overboard. Searching for her in blizzard-like conditions won't be easy, but I was able to verify that she's safe!

  • US text: Quite a bit of time has passed since Brittany and I were separated. At least she has some shelter inside that cave. But it's probably still so cold. I need to find her quickly. If she gets hungry, I hope she knows better than to eat too much snow. The only thing worse than a brain freeze is an empty-stomach freeze!

Besides their big ears, I'm excited to find out what other unique characteristics they may possess! I'll have to observe them closely... Good thing they're so cute to look at! Whew! What a day!

  • US text: Thanks to the Yellow Pikmin, we were able to defeat the Vehemoth Phosbat! And, much to everyone's surprise, we found our captain inside the beast! Wow! And can you believe our luck? He found a data file from someone named Olimar...who has our cosmic-drive key! But where in the world is this Olimar? Where?! We need that key!

It seems that the signal is somehow connected to that Hocotatian who picked up our cosmic-drive key. It's going to take a team effort to track this thing down!   • US text: Beyond the dense jungle, at the end of a strangely foreboding pathway...we found ourselves in a vast desert. It rather resembles the terrain of Koppai. There we found a new communication device! I'm starting to get a little homesick... That or it's just getting stuffy here in my helmet.

  • US text: The Demise of the Meerslug / Poor planners we Koppaites be, but defy us at your own peril. A communication device! Recovered from within the dank belly of the Meerslug. A keen engineer can see that it may expand the Drake's communications range. In such a dark and stinky demise, it takes a keen engineer can see what it may...

  • US text: We showed that beastly Meerslug who was boss and retrieved the communication device without incident. Alph is working on incorporating the device's transmitter into the Drake's communication systems. The creatures on this planet will eat anything! What gluttons. I'm glad we Koppaites aren't like that...

Saw the Winged Onion[edit]

  • US text: We discovered a new type of Onion on the other side of the river, but it remains entangled in some sort of web. Based on what we've observed so far, Pikmin seem to evolve according to their environment. I'm thinking that new Pikmin will be helpful in exploring this area. Perhaps they'll join us if we free the Onion.

Freed the Winged Onion[edit]

Discovered Winged Pikmin[edit]

  • US text: After bridging the river, we secured another Onion from a predator. This Onion then sprouted a Winged Pikmin! These Pikmin can fly and traverse bodies of water. More careful observation is needed to determine any other characteristics they possess.

Defeated the Scornet Maestro[edit]

  • US text: Well...there's good news and there's bad news. The good news is we freed Captain Olimar! The bad news is we had to leave him out there in the wild. It wasn't our fault, though! The sun was setting, and we'd just had this huge battle. It was all so chaotic... He'll be OK for the night...right? After all this, I hope he has the cosmic-drive key.

Louie's landing in the Garden of Hope[edit]

  • US text: I can't believe it! Captain Olimar woke up! While we were sleeping, he took control of the Drake and touched down in the area where Brittany originally crash-landed. And as if that wasn't odd enough, he then grabbed all of the food we gathered and ran off with it! We're going after him, but I can't help but wonder what is going on!

Upon close observation, it appears that a pellet carried by Pikmin of the same color will spawn greater numbers than one carried by Pikmin of a different color. If there are multiple colors of Pikmin, a majority of same-colored Pikmin will spawn more sprouts. I wish we had more time to simply study these creatures...

  • US text: After observing the Red Pikmin, I've come to the conclusion that they are actually fully resistant to fire. They also appear to be extremely ferocious fighters, despite their appearance. They remind me of the captain in that way.

  • US text: After observing these Winged Pikmin, my conclusion is that they are not very effective in combat. However, since they possess the ability to fly, they can be extremely useful for accomplishing certain tasks. I will keep an eye out for any opportunities to utilize their unique ability.

  • US text: Careful observation of the Blue Pikmin has revealed that they have the ability to swim as well as attack in the water! The way they open their mouths is so cute, but I think that is their way of extracting oxygen from the water. There appear to be openings on their cheeks that resemble gills.

The way they open their mouths makes them look like they're laughing - it's very cute but in actual fact I think that this 'laughter' is the Blue Pikmin using their gills to breathe underwater.

  • US text: Sixty days have passed since we landed on this planet. My only pleasures are in the juice and the hot bath I get at the end of each day. Luckily, water is plentiful on this planet, and my crewmates always let me have the first soak. Even so, I can't help but get a little creeped out by the captain's rubber ducky. It just floats there, staring at me...
