Gatling Groink is an enemy in Pikmin 2. It is a large biomechanical creature with eyes staring forward, two legs, a mechanical tail, and a mouthplate that fires mortar rounds. It walks around and extremely rarely will it accidentally walk off a cliff or a walkway. It will "defeat" it, but no spirit or anything rises up. Mid-air mortars also vanish should this happen. In the game, it is usually placed on top of hard-to-reach towers or pillars, giving it a wide attack range, this is even more annoying, because it can be extremley challenging to attack them when they are located as such. It attacks by initiating a cannon from its mouth and fires 3 mortars (with very little time between firings). When the balls hit the ground, it will scatter all the Pikmin in range and kill those at the absolute center of the blast, some won't occasionally though, it may be kind of luck based. The method to attack it is to throw Pikmin at its non-metal parts, or its backside, as the front has a protective glass/plastic shield. It can shake the Pikmin off, however, when its health gets too low. It is still possible to stun or hurt it with a Purple Pikmin if you attack the frame of the creature. When killed, it will start regenerating health, making it crucial to carry it to the Onion or The Ship. If you don't, it will revitalize and continue its attack. It is said, that if it's tail were eliminated, it would be incapable of attacking; in fact, if you throw your Pikmin on the tail, it cannot attack. It will attempt to shake them off.

Olimar's Notes

This beastly predator's aggressive ejection of high-speed projectiles makes it one of the most fearsome creatures in the ecosystem. Its body seems to comprise of both biological and mechanical components, and represents one of the most evolutionary advanced specimens ever observed. The chamber within its torso gives it rapid-fire bio-pellet launch capabilities. What appears to be a tail fin is in fact the base of its counter-weight and ammunition cylinder, so immobilizing this appendage will prevent the groink from attacking... at least in theory. Confirmation of this suspicion remains elusive, as nobody has volunteered to test it.

Louie's Notes

Remove the cannon and stockpile, and then vigorously tenderize the meat with a heavy mallet. Spoon over a steaming bowl of fluffy white rice and douse with chili sauce.
