The Burrowing Snagret is an enemy in the Pikmin games and the boss of White Flower Garden in Pikmin 2. It appears to be a combination of a bird and a snake, and a member of the Snavian family (Snavian being a combination of the words snake and avian, avian meaning "bird-related"). They remain underground for the majority of the time, surfacing only when approached by Pikmin or a Captain. Every few times it emerges, the beast gets stuck with only its head above ground, giving a captain an opportunity to attack without fear of losing any Pikmin. When above ground, it attempts to eat Pikmin one by one until it is sufficiently damaged, at which point it burrows back underground.
When killed in Pikmin 1, Burrowing Snagrets explode into many pellets; in Pikmin 2, a dead Burrowing Snagret leaves behind its head to be returned to an Onion or the Research Pod.
Sometimes this creature and the Pileated Snagret may remain alive with what appears to be little or no health.
Locations
Their only locations in the first game are The Forest of Hope where 3 appear in the same area, and The Final Trial on Challenge Mode (Pikmin 1). In Pikmin 2, a Burrowing Snagret is the boss of White Flower Garden, found on sublevel 5 - this one contains the Five-man Napsack and many are encountered throughout Snagret Hole; one is even guarding the entrance in Awakening Wood where the three in Pikmin 1 are located. Another is in Hole of Heroes, and yet another guards the Pink Menace in the Valley of Repose. Burrowing Snagrets are the most common boss-class enemies in Pikmin 2, having at least 8 different in-game occurrences outside of Challenge Mode, where it only has one.
Ship Log
"This large, subterranean life-form suddenly erupts from underground to feast on nearby Pikmin. Its body is covered in slick scales, which render Pikmin attacks ineffective. Surely, it has a weak point somewhere..."

How to kill
- Pikmin 1: The Forest of Hope
The Snagret on the pool side as swallowed the Geiger Counter, which is required to complete the game, to beat Burrowing Snagrets is to swarm a group of about 20-30 of Pikmin when the Snagret gets its head stuck inside the ground, the Pikmin should take the Snagret out after swarming on your first try, or a quick second. Repeat the process with the other two Snagrets. Make sure that they are separete from each other, or else you will lose Pikmin fast!
- Pikmin 1: The Final Trial (Challenge Mode)
There is only one Snagret on the other side of where you start, take him down by using the C-Stick to keep close to Olimar and swarm the head if it gets stuck for a second. If you haven't triggered the Beady Long Legs or haven't defeated him, keep away from the sandy arena, space is a factor here!
- Pikmin 2: White Flower Garden
The Snagret is in the arena, with eggs to flower your Pikmin, Purple Pikmin in a small group can defeat the Snagret by stunning it, and then swarming with more Pikmin, or just swarm it when its head gets stuck, the head gets stuck more frequently in Pikmin 2, than the original. If Mitites pop out of the eggs, quickly hurl Purples, as the panic will get some Pikmin eaten.
- Pikmin 2: Valley of Repose
This particular Snagret is on a snow ledge, you probably cannot swarm it, so throw Purples to stun the beast, and throw more on its emerging head, if the Snagret is fully upright, Purples may not reach it. The Snagret is on a path going up from the pool after the Emergence Cave.
- Pikmin 2: Awakening Wood
The lone Snagret is on the center of the large field where in Pikmin 1, you fought the original three in the story. If you follow the wall on the right of the field, you can skip the Snagret. If you want to fight it, use Purple Pikmin.
- Pikmin 2: Snagret Hole (Sublevel 3)
There are two Snagrets, one has nothing, but the other has devoured the Meat Satchel, if your army is a large group, you may have to face both together in this cramped arena, use the Violet, and Ivory Candypop Buds to have Purples, and White Pikmin, in addition to the Purple Stun, you can use Whites as "sacrifices" to poison the Snagret, this is not recommended, especially since you have to sacrifice several Whites to kill a Burrowing Snagret, and that is just one.
- Pikmin 2: Snagret Hole (Sublevel 6)
I never actually counted how many Snagrets there, are but there is more than two, and some are in cramped spaces edged by water, one Snagret has the Triple Sugar Threat, and its usually the one next to an Antenna Beetle, which will defect Pikmin to his side, so the Snagret may eat in peace. You will have to punch the Beetle a few times to make it hop out....for a few seconds. Use this time to take down the Snagret with Blue Pikmin, or Purples if its on land. You may also want to separate the two.
- Pikmin 2: Hole of Heroes (Sublevel 4)
A Burrowing Snagret may be guarding the Lustrous Element, if it is, then that's good.....but if not...you have to face the more dangerous Pileated Snagret! The floor only makes it worse, its a quicksand floor! It won't kill you, but you'll be sucked towards the center! If you have a large group, chances are both will emerge and fight you at the same time, pick the Snagrets one at a time to minimize Pikmin loss, and stay out of the floor!
- Pikmin 2: Cryptic Cavern (Sublevel 5) (Challenge Mode)
You better have enough time, this will take a while, with only 5 Red Pikmin, and 5 Whites, use Ultra-Spicy Spray to hurt him bad, and swarm him if he gets stuck, if you use Ultra-Bitter Spray, well.....it depends, I guess, but the Snagret's overall defense is harder to penetrate, and with only 10 Reds & Whites, that's up to you.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
- A Burrowing Snagret is seen as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Its description is as follows:
A member of the snavian family with a birdlike head and a snakelike neck and body. An underground dweller, the snagret makes sudden strikes aboveground to capture surface-dwelling prey. It uses its beak to scoop up daily nutrition and can snatch up three Pikmin at once--a relatively small amount made deadly by its strike speed. No one has ever seen its tail.
Trivia
- The Burrowing Snagret can be seen in a beta video of Pikmin 1, where it appears to have a light or white body.
Burrowing Snarrow
In the in-game Piklopedia, the information provided speaks of a creature called the Burrowing Snarrow, this creature having never been seen in any game. The Burrowing Snarrow is also mentioned in the first game, in the Enemy Reel.
