I'm a Japanese pikmin fan, and often research something related to pikmin. However, many Japanese information related to pikmin is now scattering, and want place to gather pikmin information in Japanese. If you guys don't mind, can I ask you to make Japanese branch here like Wikipedia? It is much more trustworthy than I make my own pikmin wiki in other websites. However, there are some issues. First, I can't find other Japanese editor besides me. I'm not belonged to any Japanese pikmin community (the only Japanese community is pikmin speedrun / challenge mode community?), so I cannot advertise this page. Second, I haven't experienced managing wikimedia, so I can't take responsible of controlling Japanese branch right now, if you admitted. I want your opinion for this topic. --PortableSunset (talk) 12:46, March 10, 2021 (EST)

I think making a Japanese branch is possible, but Porplemontage can confirm. However, with just one editor, it is not likely that the wiki would grow well. If you could find more editors, I think it would be a good idea. As for managing the branch, I think that one way to have different wiki languages in MediaWiki is to have it all in the same wiki, but versions of pages on different languages would go in sub-pages. For example, Pikipedia has Cloaking Burrow-nit for the English documentation of the enemy, and then it could have "Cloaking Burrow-nit/jp" for a Japanese version of the page. This is what The Cutting Room Floor does, for example, but I think it's achieved with a MediaWiki addon. I'm not sure. If we use this format though, there wouldn't be much that needs to be managed. With all of that said, I have in the past visited this site. Isn't this a wiki? Maybe you could work there, if the idea to start a whole new branch here doesn't work out. — {EspyoT} 14:24, March 12, 2021 (EST)
I'll answer your comments.
  • Lack of Editors - That's right, but Japanese Pikmin speedrun / challenge mode community uses this website, so there is a potential to gather more editors. If I need to gather in my own, sadly, I can't and need to scrap this idea.
  • Technical Information - I think this current situation is enough.
  • Seesaawiki Pikmin Wiki and other ones - that's only focusing on routing Pikmin series area. And many Japanese description of Pikmin is scattering. (e.x. ニコニコ大百科[1](Need monthly subscription to edit), ピクシブ百科事典[2] アニヲタwiki[3], 膨大なページ数wiki[4](sketchy and often be griefed)) All of them are not Pikmin specialized wiki. And article will be deleted like Wikipedia if there's not enough information, besides the last one. This is why Japanese Pikmin speedrun / challenge mode community relies on and uses this website though written in English. -PortableSunset (talk) 22:15, March 12, 2021 (EST)

Okay, I've talked with Porplemontage and some other people. We think the best plan would be for you to try to create a new wiki. You don't need to pay for an entire server or anything, since some wiki farms let you create wikis for free. For instance, Grifkuba is the network that hosts Pikmin Fanon. With this, you can see if you get used to the way a wiki is set up and managed, and see if you can gather more editors. If everything goes well, we might go ahead and make it an official Pikipedia branch, and a part of the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance. — {EspyoT} 18:47, March 19, 2021 (EDT)
Another thing I should mention: I don't host the Spanish SmashPedia, but they are able to plug into my ssbwiki.com domain as es.ssbwiki.com. The same thing is possible here: If you can get hosting from Grifkuba or whoever, it's possible to use ja.pikminwiki.com for the site's URL if everyone is good with that. I remember all your comments and ask again after I find enough editors. -PortableSunset (talk) 22:02, March 20, 2021 (EDT)
