Death Statistics

Because this subject has no official name, the name "Tempinveir" is conjectural.

(just pretends that says Death Statistics)

Death Statistics are statistics kept and viewable in game easily accessible for the player. There are two main types of Death Satistics, "Pikmin Lost" refering to the amount of Pikmin lost during a playthrough or day, accessible at the end of a day or the end your playthrough. Enemy deaths are tracked in the Piklopedia under each entry. Additionally, under the entries in Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 4 there is another Pikmin death counter, this time tracking how many times they've been lost to an enemy.

Differences Between Games

Pikmin Lost

In Pikmin, the day results screen shows both pikmin 'lost in battle' and pikmin 'left behind' for any given day as well as a total count of both. On the Pikmin Lost counter on the final result screen does not differentiate from different types of hazards or Pikmin, combining the previous two separate counts.

In Pikmin 2, on both the day result screen and final result screen separates pikmin lost into seven separate categories: Battle, Sunset, Fire, Water, Electricity, Explosion, Poison and an overall count of all the above. The day results screen includes both a number for this day under 'Today' and a total counter under 'So Far' for each category. On the High score menu there is only a total counter, but it counters your personal three best scores for each category.

In Pikmin 3 the pikmin lost is split into five categories, one for each type of Pikmin in the story mode. There is also an overall counter underneath, showing how many pikmin was lost today (having a separate counter for sunset) as well as a total count Alongside a basic counter for each pikmin, a graph is displayed showing pikmin numbers throughout the day. On the final results screen it shows a separate death counter for each pikmin as well as a total count of all pikmin lost. All of this applies to Pikmin 3 Deluxe.

In Pikmin 4 the Pikmin lost statistics are always highlighted red. The day results menu has a separate pikmin lost for each of the eight types with an onion, as well as an overall counter. On the final results screen for both the main game and Olimar's Shipwreck Tale it is instead streamlined into one overall Pikmin Lost counter, displayed simply as 'Lost'.

Piklopedia

There is no Piklopedia in Pikmin and Pikmin 3, hence it has no counters for pikmin lost to a certain enemy or how many times and enemy has been defeated.

In Pikmin 2 the Piklopedia is introduced along with the statistics. Pikmin lost to an enemy appear next to the text 'Pikmin Lost' while the amount of enemies that have been killed is next to the text 'Creatures Defeated'.

In Pikmin 3 Deluxe, only the counter for how many enemies have been killed by the player appear, appearing next to the text 'Killed'.

In Pikmin 4, both counters reappear under the second slide of the 'Data' tab. The Pikmin Lost is showcased as 'Pikmin Casualties' and enemies killed showcased as 'Defeated'.

Exceptions and Oddities

There are many exceptions and oddties with how deaths are tracked

Pikmin Lost

  • In any game with caves, Pikmin thrown into a candypop bud in a cave and left as sprouts, (or by any other enemy that sprouts e.g Swooping Snitchbug.) when a captain exits a cave even though inaccessible and removed, they do not count as Pikmin Lost.
  • Harmless enemies can kill Pikmin and have this change accounted for in their Piklopedia entries. For example the Puffy Blowhog could blow Pikmin into a pit and have it count to both a Pikmin casuality on the Piklopedia and a Pikmin Lost on the results screen.

Pikmin 3

Pikmin 4

  • Glow Pikmin lost are not counted, as they return to the Lumiknoll as stated in its Piklopedia entry.
    • It could also be stated that Glow Pikmin are not technically Pikmin and therefore do not count.
  • Pikmin from dandori challenges and dandori battles do not count towards 'Pikmin Lost'.

Enemies Defeated

Pikmin 2

  • Enemies killed by friendly fire count towards Creatures Defetead.
  • Even though killing a buried Armored Cannon Larva does not unlock its piklopedia entry, it does increase the Creatures Defeated counter.

Trivia

  • In Pikmin 4, Breadbugs and Giant Breadbugs are the only enemies in the game incapable of ever increasing their 'Pikmin Casualties'counter.
