Pikmin Lost

Pikmin Lost (aka Pikmin death) is the statistic shown at the end of a day or the end your playthrough through any mainline Pikmin game, showing how many pikmin was lost.

In Pikmin, the day results screen shows both pikmin 'lost in battle' and pikmin 'left behind' for any given day as well as a total count of both. On the Pikmin Lost counter on the final result screen does not differentiate from different types of hazards or Pikmin, combining the previous two separate counts.

In Pikmin 2, on both the day result screen and final result screen separates pikmin lost into seven separate categories: Battle, Sunset, Fire, Water, Electricity, Explosion, Poison and an overall count of all the above. The day results screen includes both a number for this day under 'Today' and a total counter under 'So Far' for each category. On the High score menu there is only a total counter, but it counters your personal three best scores for each category.

In Pikmin 3 the pikmin lost is split into five categories, one for each type of Pikmin in the story mode. There is also an overall counter underneath, showing how many pikmin was lost today (having a separate counter for sunset) as well as a total count Alongside a basic counter for each pikmin, a graph is displayed showing pikmin numbers throughout the day. On the final results screen it shows a separate death counter for each pikmin as well as a total count of all pikmin lost.

In Pikmin 4 the Pikmin lost statistics are always highlighted red. The day results menu has a separate pikmin lost for each of the nine types with an onion, as well as an overall counter. On the final results screen for both the main game and Olimar's Shipwreck Tale it is instead streamlined into one overall Pikmin Lost counter, displayed simply as 'Lost'.

In Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 4 renditions of the Piklopedia, enemies have separate "Pikmin killed" counts under each entry.

Exceptions

There are many exceptions to when a Pikmin Lost does not count towards the counter or counts to a different counter than expected.

  • In Pikmin 3, in the opening tutorial with Captain Charlie, Yellow Pikmin can be eaten by the Phosbats and not count towards the overall counter.
  • In Pikmin 4, Glow Pikmin lost are not counted, as they return to the Lumiknoll as stated in its Piklopedia entry.
    • It could also be stated that Glow Pikmin are not technically Pikmin and therefore do not count.
  • In Pikmin 4, Pikmin thrown into a candypop bud in a cave and left as sprouts, (or by any other enemy that sprouts e.g Swooping Snitchbug.) when a captain exits a cave even though inaccessible and removed, they do not count as Pikmin Lost.
  • Harmless enemies can kill Pikmin and have this change accounted for in their Piklopedia entries. For example the Puffy Blowhog could blow Pikmin into a pit and have it count to both a Pikmin casuality on the Piklopedia and a Pikmin Lost on the results screen.
