Flower Garden (花園?, lit.: "Garden") is the first mission in Olimar's Assignment, representing the first day of Olimar and Louie's third trip to PNF-404. It takes place in the Garden of Hope.

Plot

Olimar's Expedition Log: Garden Survey

[The scene shows Captain Olimar facing the camera, on the section that serves as the landing site during the main story mode.]

This is Olimar, Captain of the S.S. Dolphin.

I've been to this planet twice before already.

Hocotate Freight is drowning in debt again. I'm not saying it's our company president's fault...because this is an official log.

We're here in search of treasure to pay off that debt.

[Olimar looks to his left to see Louie running around a Red Bulborb and two Dwarf Red Bulborbs. One of the two Red Pikmin following him gets eaten by the Bulborb. This happens on the section with a dirt wall and the first Red Bulborb in the game. The scene then returns to Olimar.]

But I know from experience that the local wildlife won't make this job easy.

This cutscene is identical to the Secret File Olimar's Expedition Log - In the Garden -, but with different subtitles.

Synopsis

Some unknown time after the events of Pikmin 2, Hocotate Freight falls into debt once again. The President again sends Olimar and Louie back to PNF-404. This level takes place on their first day, establishing their situation.

In relation to the Story Mode, this takes place before the Koppaites have crashed onto PNF-404, indicated by Brittany's absence from the bucket she was trapped in. In addition, Olimar makes no mention of the cosmic-drive key.

Description

The day is set in the Garden of Hope, but only part of the area can be explored; like many Side Story missions, stubborn rocks and cinder blocks restrict access to parts of the area. All of the other area segments, the section behind the crystal wall next to the base, and the second half of the area unlocked in the later part of Story Mode are not accessible. This limits the explorable area to the loop-shaped region Alph explores on day 2.

The player is initially restricted to the area around the base, but a dirt wall can be destroyed to access the rest of the loop, and a brown bridge can be built to access the same area from the opposite direction. (Note that the brown bridge is built in the opposite direction to how it is built in Story Mode.) This further area contains most of the treasures: 2 Face Wrinklers, a Golden Sunseed, 2 Sunseed Berries, and a Citrus Lump.

Guide

The following article or section contains guides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

Starting out the day, whistle Louie and the Red Pikmin in front of the player when the day loads. Toss 1 of the Pikmin at the Cupid's Grenade and 1 more at the Pellet Posy on the right. Collect the Pikmin which got the Cupid's Grenade and turn back to the Onion to whistle the other batch of Red Pikmin in between a half-buried Sunseed Berry and another Pellet Posy. Then toss 5 Pikmin onto the mentioned Pellet Posy containing the 5-Pellet and throw 3 Red Pikmin to dig up the Sunseed Berry. Throw Louie at the Onion so he can pluck the Pikmin sprouts. Charge the rest of the Pikmin and the newly plucked ones to the bridge fragments near the Onion. Collect the Pikmin carrying the Sunseed Berry and whistle the Pikmin returning back to the site with the bridge fragments. After that, charge all the player's Pikmin at the bridge fragments near the bridge that is under construction. After they build the bridge, throw 3 Pikmin at the Sunseed Berry hidden behind the leaves and throw Louie by the SPERO. After that turn to the already completed bridge defeat the 2 Dwarf Bulborbs, collect the Cupid's Grenade and pluck the Rock Pikmin sprouts. Send 3 Red Pikmin to one Dwarf Bulborb corpse and another 3 Rock Pikmin to the other, defeat and bring back the pellet posies using their respective colors and charge all the player's Pikmin at the Kingcaps. After clearing them out, pluck the Rock Pikmin sprouts, throw 5 of them at the pellet posy and send any 10 Pikmin to mine the Gold Nuggets. After that, go to the Dirt wall on the other side of the split path and break it down. While they are tearing down said Dirt Wall, swap back to Louie to collect all the remaining Pikmin who are not currently doing a task and maybe if the player is lucky the player can snipe the White Spectralid which will gives the player an extra Pikmin. Once the wall is torn down, swap back to Olimar and send him to the Red Pikmin, swap back to Louie and whistle the 10 Red Pikmin returning back to the original site of the Nuggets (Note: do not whistle those Pikmin while carrying a Gold Nugget or the Nugget will return back to the original site.) Send Louie to Olimar and swap back to him to whistle the Red Pikmin and Louie. Go down the slope and defeat both of the Dwarf Bulborbs, then throw 3 Pikmin on the ledge with the Sunseed Berry for them to dig it up. Walk further left and charge all your Pikmin at the dirt wall with the Face Wrinkler behind. While the Pikmin tear down the dirt wall throw Louie at the Golden Sunseed Berry for later. Once the wall is torn down charge 5 Pikmin at the Face Wrinkler and throw 8 more Pikmin up to Louie (or for auto lock-on the Golden Sunseed Berry). Swap to Louie and take the remaining 5 Pikmin and charge them at the Climbing stick to obtain the Citrus Lump above. Whistle back Olimar and proceed to defeat the Skutterchucks ahead as one of them contains a Sunseed Berry to charge 3 Pikmin at. Go up the slope on the left to charge any 5 Pikmin at the Face Wrinkler and charge the player's remaining Pikmin at the Gold Nuggets. Around this point wait for the Pikmin to carry back the goods and the Platinum Medal should be obtained.

Briefing

Just because a treasure is buried or hard to spot doesn't mean I won't expect you to grab those too!

Loading screen tip

Keep an eye out for hidden or buried fruits. Collect them all!

During gameplay

In some situations during gameplay, Olimar or Louie will leave a comment.

Trigger Olimar Louie
At the Onion  Let's hope the third time's a charm on this planet. The Pikmin haven't changed much at all.  Food... But we can't eat Pikmin.
At the area with buried Rock Pikmin  These Rock Pikmin are new.  We can't eat Rock Pikmin either, can we?
Near the two Dwarf Bulborbs by the buried Sunseed Berry  No matter... This KopPad thing is proving quite useful.  This KopPad has been used...
At the end of the bridge leading to the Skutterchucks  This bridge will increase efficiency.  So hungry...

Assignment Report

It's been a while since my last treasure-hunting expedition, but I found a few choice artifacts. Good to know I haven't lost my touch. The radar's detected something juicy, so we'll investigate that tomorrow. I hope it's something valuable enough that we can finish the mission early.
