Sheargrubs
- Main article: Sheargrub.
Sheargrubs come in two different colors: pink and purple. Pink Sheargrubs are female, while purple Sheargrubs are male. Female Sheargrubs do not have any mandibles and do not attack Olimar nor Pikmin. Male Sheargrubs, however, are exactly the opposite. They have mandibles and will jump onto their prey and tear them apart. In Pikmin, when the male Sheargrubs have a Pikmin in their mouth, they are invincible from damage unless Captain Olimar throws a Pikmin on them. This has been fixed in Pikmin 2, allowing players to kill them even if they have a Pikmin in their mandibles. Sheargrubs, both male and female, will also deconstruct any bridges built. This can be avoided by simply attacking them.It is also important to note that after you kill opposing Sheargrubs, in 2 or 3 days they will come back. These creatures are also related to the Shearwig.
Shearwigs
- Main article: Shearwig.
Shearwigs are enemies in both Pikmin games. They are male, resembling brown, winged Sheargrubs. They are slightly more aggressive than Male Sheargrubs, and take off and fly when their health descends to the yellow zone; up in the air, they regain health. When Shearwigs fly, throw Pikmin to kill them. Shearwigs also ruin bridges, just like the larvae. Shearwigs are not seen as often as the Sheargrubs, but can be found away from water as both Sheargrubs and -wigs are damaged by water. A place on land to find them is near the landing site of the Perplexing Pool.
