Talk:Weekly challenge
Table size[edit]
The table of weekly challenges in this article is already way too long, and these challenges have only been in the game for 3 months. Even the measures so far to condense the table, such as combining neighboring identical challenges into one row, haven't been able to stop the table from getting very tall and hard to read. And as this feature ages, the table will only get larger. What can we do about this to stop this from becoming the longest article on the wiki and being very hard to read? I don't know what can be done; I mean, the rewards could be put side-to-side instead of in rows, but that would be harder to read than what's currently there and still wouldn't fix the problem of the ever-expanding length. Any ideas? — Soprano(talk) 01:07, July 18, 2022 (EDT)
- I don't think anything can be done, and that's not a bad thing. What we can do is list only the most recent challenges, like the last 5, and then link to a sub-page that lists all the other ones. This way this article can be kept nice and readable while the sub-page can focus on dumping the whole list. — {EspyoT} 11:04, July 18, 2022 (EDT)
Should we stop documenting every weekly challenge?[edit]
Documenting the frequently changing features of Pikmin Bloom is really annoying, so we should be doing what we can to reduce the workload. One place we could do that is on this article. Keeping a log of every single weekly challenge and the rewards it can give doesn't really benefit anyone. Unlike events, which are interesting and often unique, there's just not much of a difference between each weekly challenge for it to be worth documenting them in such detail. Now, sometimes weekly challenges change more significantly, and I think these significant changes are worth documenting. These include when flower planting challenges were introduced, and when the number of options for each type of challenge changed. But the specifics of each challenge are just not important enough. We already don't document the changing content of the Pack of the Week in the shop, and that's more interesting than the weekly challenges. I would like to stop documenting every weekly challenge, but if we do this, we can't go back to documenting them again, so I'm asking here first to see whether this is a good idea. — Soprano(talk) 03:15, November 15, 2022 (EST)
- As someone who's never touched Pikmin Bloom, it sounds reasonable enough to me. -Gulliblepikmin 13:10, November 15, 2022 (EST)
- I'm down for that! It's quite tiring for someone to edit the article every week for changing rewards, and I don't see a future situation where we'll need the specific information.--PastelP (talk) 14:36, November 25, 2022 (EST)
- I don't think having the entire history is useful, but having the current one is. The game itself makes it very difficult to see what the rewards will be prior to completing the challenge. When selecting the challenge, it'll show icons for the rewards, but the icons are tiny and you can't really tell the difference between one flower type and another. Once you start a challenge, you can't even see those icons anymore, so there's no longer a way to even kinda see the rewards in-game. The reason this is difficult is because you now need to empty out enough space to receive the reward before you receive it. Knowing which flowers to plant to prepare for the reward is very helpful. Back when this page had the full list, I used to use the latest entry in the list here to be able to adjust my play to match what's expected.--Thajocoth (talk) 2:01, December 19, 2022 (CST)
- Hmm, I see what you mean. However, documenting the current weekly challenge is almost as much work as documenting the history of weekly challenges. Someone still has to edit the page every Monday. If there's someone who wants to do that, I think it'd be a fine idea to create a section in the article for the current challenges, but such a section would require those weekly edits to be worth having. — Soprano(talk) 03:11, December 19, 2022 (EST)
- At the moment, I think that we could probably at the very least simplify the information present. They've got a fairly consistent pattern of 2 step challenges and 1 flower planting challenge; that much is consistent. They only update the rewards every so often. Removing the archive full-on, however, especially just because "it's tiring to edit the article every week", rubs us the wrong way. If not on this article, maybe we could compile that information on a "List of Weekly Challenges" article on a table? And any time they change the system for rewards itself, you could split the table, kinda like how Inkipedia's list of Splatfests in Splatoon 2 is divided between that game's two scoring styles. If we want to do it like this, we'd better decide quick before this information becomes a nightmare to compile... Camwoodstock (talk) 14:29, December 19, 2022 (EST)
- Well now what you're proposing is basically what we had before: a second page with a list of weekly challenges in a table, with the most recent few on the article itself. I'm fine with that, as long as there's someone who wants to maintain it. I'm not going to do it myself (though I do have screenshots of the weekly challenges since we removed the table, so we won't have a gap in the list). — Soprano(talk) 15:43, December 19, 2022 (EST)
