The Wii U Console.
The Wii U GamePad.

The Wii U is to be Nintendo's seventh home console, set to be released November 18 for North America, November 30 for Europe and Australia, and December 8 of 2012 for Japan. The primary feature of the Wii U is the Wii U GamePad which features a 6.2" touchscreen, dual analog sticks, triggers, buttons and D-pad, a front facing camera, microphone, Near Field Communication capability, and a gyroscope and accelerometer. Titles featuring Off-TV Play can be displayed entirely on the Wii U GamePad Screen, allowing for the television to be used for something else while gaming. The screen can also be used to provide different views into the game's world and play using the touch feature, gyroscope and accelerometer. The Wii U GamePad also features the abillity to function as a universal TV remote control that does not require the Wii U to be turned on.

The Wii U will be backwards compatible with Wii software and controllers, meaning Wii games such as the New Play Control! versions of Pikmin and Pikmin 2 can be played on the Wii U. GameCube games and accessories will not be compatible, however, although there is a possibility GameCube titles will be made available with the Wii U's Virtual Console Service.

Pikmin games

Pikmin 3 is currently in development for the Wii U and is expected to release in the Spring of 2013. All Pikmin 3 demos have so far shown the ability to display a overhead view of the gameplay map and use the Wii U GamePad for control, in addition to using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck shown in New Play Control!, Pikmin 3 features Wii Motion Plus capability which did not appear in the Wii Versions of Pikmin and Pikmin 2. Pikmin 3 is the first Pikmin game playable in HD.

Nintendo Land, a launch title for the console, features 12 mini games based off Nintendo franchises, with one of them being Pikmin, its mini game being called Pikmin Adventure. The game is bundled with the Deluxe 32 GB Nintendo Wii U Set. It marks the first appearance of the Pikmin franchise in HD.
