The Smile Detector is a treasure in Hey! Pikmin, that can be found in the Back-and-Forth Road area . It is actually a gray, rectangular digital camera that has the same size as Olimar.

After a doorway, the player can find an iron block that must be placed under another entrance of a doorway, in order for Olimar to go through it. On the other side, the player can find the treasure, which is partially buried.

“Sometimes I look so haggard and drained when coming back from an expedition that the Pikmin keep their distance and the S.S. Dolphin II seems wary of addressing me. Fortunately, now I have this device. All I have to do is stand in front of it and I feel the urge to smile. But on occasion, trying to force a smile tires me out, and I'm back to square one.”
