Sheargrubs are small, grub-like enemies in both Pikmin games. They hide under the surface until the player (or a group of Pikmin) passes by, at which point they will emerge and attack. While they are not especially dangerous and have little health, they are infamous for tearing apart the bridges that Pikmin construct.
Overview
While they may look like small insect larvae, Sheargrubs are in fact fully matured specimens which are legless and wingless as an evolutionary adaption. They demonstrate a degree of sexual dimorphism not at all uncommon to insects; the males of the species have a dark purple shell and strong chewing mouthparts. Pikmin are their favorite food, though they will attack captains as well. The females are much lighter in color, and their mandibles are significantly smaller. They are not a threat to the Pikmin themselves or to the player, making them more of a distraction than a hazard, but can still demolish stick bridges with annoying efficiency.
