Adminship... again

Yes, it seems I was an idiot and lost my password. Either that or I was hacked. So I had to create another account, and I was asking you to give me THE POWER again. Snakeboss16 22:05, 21 October 2010 (EDT)

Greenpickle, check this guy to see if he has the same IP address as Snakeboss. --Gamefreak75
I checked. Snakeboss has never logged in from that IP before. Plus I can't imagine Snakeboss saying something like THE POWER. Vol (Talk)
No, but he clearly has a dynamic IP address and the one of this account is a close match to those of the old one. Of course, without some kind of better proof (this is why people put their public GPG keys on their user pages), we can't just promote this account. Ideas? GP
Oh, it's unlikely someone else has access to your account, as then their IP address would appear in the list. So...remember harder. GP
So then I'm screwed? I'll keep trying to remember my password. LOL, I actually say things like THE POWER a lot with my friend, but it's the first time here. Snakeboss16 18:00, 22 October 2010 (EDT)

I remembered the password! Yes, it was actually, me, Twinmold.pngSnakeboss14Twinmold.png. I got THE POWER again! :P

Why was your IP different? Vol (Talk)
I said, dynamic IP. It's not uncommon. GP
What's dynamic IP? Twinmold.pngSnakeboss14Twinmold.png
It's what it sounds like. It just means an IP that changes. Many ISPs assign IP addresses dynamically because they only have so many they can allocate, so they need to free them up when some users disconnect - they don't actually have enough to handle every user they have, if they were all online at once. GP

I honestly think that the anon you just blocked should have a longer ban, tbh. --FREAK ~GameGame Freak Logo.png Freak~OUT!

Meh. It's very unlikely he'll be back. For all we know, although even more unlikely, someone else at that address with better intentions might want to edit here some day, and it's better to have vandalism and good edits than no edits at all. GP

Changing the old wikia's name

Since Wikia doesn't want us to call people to the moved Pikipedia, I suggest changing the old Pikipedia's name to something that indicates that it's outdated and/or abandoned. {EspyoT} 16:30, 25 October 2010 (EDT)

Hmm, I guess, maybe. What, just Pikmin Wiki? GP
I was thinking something like "Pikmin Wikia - The old wiki about Pikmin", but perhaps a bit better. It wouldn't tell users where it has moved to, but it would at least stop them from editing there. Also, naming it Pikmin Wikia could help differentiate between the old and new Pikipedia, but that's not too important. {EspyoT} 15:18, 26 October 2010 (EDT)
Oh, that's your aim; I thought it was mainly disassociating it from us. I was going to say see that forum, but you already have. GP

Hey Green

It's me >.> I missed too damn much >.> Every time >.> Damn life >.> Well tell me what's up >.> Am I still Admin? >.> Damn I feel awkward >.> Crystal lucario

And yes I'll be back >.> I jsut had a LOT going on >.> ask me about it later or something >.> Crystal lucario
Heeeeeey. Well, uh...we moved. (I put a notice up at the old wiki about it and Wikia took it down...) We have a new admin (Volatile Dweevil). You should vote on policy. I'll promote you right now. GP
Oh... Well... Dammit I would miss that >.> Crystal lucario

Random off-topic pages

I was looking through WantedPages, and I found that there are quite a few things that shouldn't be there, especially Halo: Reach. Are pages like this and this meant to be here, or were they accidentally imported when moving from Wikia? --SnorlaxMonster 19:57, 27 October 2010 (EDT)

Yeah, I noticed that. They've only appeared in the last few days - actual pages exist too - and a search gives them as being from Halopedia (which is odd, 'cause even if they were moving, they're not Nintendo so wouldn't join NIWA). It's similar to what happened a few days (?) ago, but on a smaller scale. I'll ask Porplemontage. GP
Ah. GP
Yeah, I know real pages exist, I linked to two existing ones. So is this something that you have to go and delete the pages, or it will just disappear? --SnorlaxMonster 20:31, 27 October 2010 (EDT)
Ah, I didn't see that. While it would be interesting to find out what happens if I delete one (I guess either we'd just lose it, it'd give me an error, or it would actually be deleted from that independent Halopedia too), I don't think it'll be necessary. Just wait a bit, see what Porple says. Probably best not to try to edit them either. GP
Sorry about this, but I just removed the links because they were adding the pages to wanted pages. --SnorlaxMonster 05:32, 1 November 2010 (EDT)
Oh, and I found some more that were missed: Halo: Evolutions - Essential Tales of the Halo Universe and Civilian Emergency Instructions/Arcadia State of Emergency. Make sure to delink them after they are deleted or they will show up in Wanted Pages. --SnorlaxMonster 05:39, 1 November 2010 (EDT)

I'm Back!!

Not sure if you remember me from a while back, but I am back, more mature, and A LOT more knowledgeable with Wiki coding. Anyways, I just stopped by to say hi. --Eduardog3000

...Hi. The name sounds familiar, at any rate. GP

Green!

GP, I need your help. Do you think it is possible for you to make a bot that can import items from a wikia to a wiki, specifically Kirby Wikia to Wikirby? --FREAK ~GameGame Freak Logo.png Freak~OUT!

Items? Can't you just use special:export/import? GP
Problem is, I am completely horrible with such mediawiki techonology or whatever it. :( --FREAK ~GameGame Freak Logo.png Freak~OUT!
By items, do you mean all pages, or pages about items? You need a list: would it be special:allpages for each namespace, or something like category:items? GP
Every single thing like we did for here. --FREAK ~GameGame Freak Logo.png Freak~OUT!
Well, all pages can be transferred using special:import/export, and that's what I did here; but since it's a merger, you need to merge them manually to avoid conflicts. What Lylat Wiki did to merge Arwingpedia transfer everything to the Arwingpedia: namespace (edit exported XML file), then merge everything manually from there. What this can't do is transfer images, though; for that, I could do something, but this is better because it preserves past versions of the image, and their uploaders. It looks quite involved, though, and requires root access, so you'd have to talk to whoever has access to the serve. GP

Blocking

Does Pikipedia have a policy on blocking? I'm not quite sure if I should or should not have blocked this user. Should I have given a warning first? Vol (Talk)

We don't have a policy, no. I would say if it's not obviously vandalism, warn them first; and even if it is, and looks more like just seeing if the page will actually change when they edit it, I'll just warn them. But then, I'm quite lenient. As I see it, you should only resort to blocking when it's necessary, as blocking a user who means no harm will probably put them off editing, but if a user vandalises again we can always revert it. GP

thank you!!!gp i owe yo one...two...A DOZEN!!!thanks i agree there should be a warning.since the day after i signed up...i was blocked.i wasnt even sure what i was doing i saw the edit so...edited.-turtwig389

Recent edits

Hey, why do I see a load of changes to your userpage whenever I go to Recent Changes? Twinmold.pngSnakeboss14Twinmold.png

Because I was making changes. The monobook.js were developing this, this and this. GP

Adminship on old wiki

I decided to change the name of the old wikia to WikiPikmin to avoid confusion. May I have adminship on it? Vol (Talk)

Locking

GP, do you think it's possible if you can lock this wiki from further editing by anons? For the past week, we've got nothing but spam and it's really annoying for everyone. They also create pages with sexual content in other languages and it takes a while for those to be deleted since there is usually no one on. It's also not a hassle to create an account. If they want to edit here so badly, they can. --FREAK ~GameGame Freak Logo.png Freak~OUT!

Well, I don't know about Greenpickle, but I check the Recent Changes every day, and anon edits catch my eye. Even if it's on pages that are rarely used, they're caught pretty quickly. As for blocking anon edits, remember that that also means that some typos or small stuff may be left unaltered. For instance, if I'm browsing a wiki and notice a typo, I'll edit the page and the change it. If, however, anon edits are disabled, I will not create an account just for a typo. The current spam edits aren't too bothersome, so I vote for leaving anon edits on, for now. If things get out of hand, I guess we could block them. {EspyoT} 13:50, 7 January 2011 (EST)
I guess so. --FREAK ~GameGame Freak Logo.png Freak~OUT!
I'm with Espyo. Wikis are about openness: look at the amount of anon. vandalism Wikipedia gets. And I'm not sure where you're getting the data to back up your claim from: anon. edits in last 7 days (I tried to get the edits starting from when you asked, but apparently MW has a bug or something. I see 4 bad edits (2 unintentional) and 4 good edits, not counting Snakeboss's when logged out.
I'll remind you that JJ, who's done a lot of work here, made a lot of edits anonymously before we convinced him to sign up - would he have, if the wiki were closed to it? GP
I'm starting to notice that the spam is becoming a bit persistent. Gamefreak75 is doing a good job on it, but it's becoming a bother. Maybe we can block anon edits for a week or so? Didn't that solve spam problems in the past? I'm not sure. {EspyoT} 19:22, 10 January 2011 (EST)
Hmm... Iunno, is it that much of a bother? Give it a few more days; if it gets worse doesn't get much better, maybe then? GP
The only thing that really, really makes me confused is that these spam edits don't make any sense. Advertising onto a website makes perfect sense. Just saying thank you for a page sounds like the work that a child with mental disorders would do. What's the profit in that? Even if the profit is to vandalize, these spam edits nowadays are hardly any bother. It's just a waste of time on the spammer's part. But I suppose we can wait a little longer to see if things calm down a bit. {EspyoT} 12:57, 12 January 2011 (EST)
Yeah, I don't get it either. Maybe they do add a URL, but MW filters it out or something? GP

I hope everyone is fine that I locked the "Talk:Queen Candypop Bud" page from anon edits for a week. No one had edited it since 2009 before the spam, and right now it's the only page being consistently spammed. Vol (Talk)

Yeah, may as well try. GP

Old link in a video

Huh, just one tiny thing. I've watched some of your YouTube videos, and the one with the Wollywog glitch, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cr5ye2sX57w has a link to Pikmin wikia in the description. You should update that. {EspyoT} 12:16, 25 January 2011 (EST)

Oh, I completely forgot about those links; I've changed it and two others. GP

Enemy notes problem

There's one small detail that's going wrong with the notes template. That "{{#ifexist:{{PAGENAME}}/reel|===Reel notes=== "<em>{{/reel}}</em>"}} is trying to check for a reel page. However, the wiki still thinks it WANTS the reel page. In other words, check out the wanted pages. There are tons about <Pikmin 2 enemy>/reel. (Also, off-topic, are you still "gone away for a few days"?) {EspyoT} 10:09, 26 January 2011 (EST)

Actually, I guess that ALL nonexistent pages are being requested. Not just /reel for Pikmin 2 enemies, but /olimar for Pikmin enemies, as well as a few others. Also, User:The_Shadow_Of_Death has a link to Runescape on his page, and this user seems to have abandoned the wiki for a while. {EspyoT} 10:37, 26 January 2011 (EST)
See here, starting from post 79. And no, I'm not still away - something else I completely forgot about... GP
I see. If I recall correctly, I had a similar problem in Carmageddon Wikia. I'll try to find out what I did to fix it.
No, I used a different method that doesn't work in this case. {EspyoT} 09:46, 27 January 2011 (EST)

Spam pages

Protecting spam pages keeps them from being re-created. Vol (Talk)

Never, mind. They wouldn't use the same pages again. Vol (Talk)

Uploading images

Hello, I'm attempting to upload new images to replace older ones (you know, newer versions of the images) but when I tried to, it came up with this message: "A file with this name already exists, and cannot be overwritten. If you still want to upload your file, please go back and use a new name." Can you please remove this restriction in order for me to proceed? --RAP 00:40, 2 March 2011 (EST)

Hmm, I don't know why that'd be, since I think you have to explicitly turn it off. I'll check with Porple. GP
See the reply; you need to make a couple more edits before you can reupload files. GP

These might serve a purpose.

Piklopediaicons.png

I foresee a possible icon usage here, they are pretty good quality. Maybe for the Enemy templates next to the name above the main image? The one and only,Artwork of three Dwarf Orange Bulborbs.Peanut64.
I'm not sure what you (or someone else) did to the original, but the outlines got messed up. I reuploaded the original (where I found it, anyway) but without bothering to do the rearrangement you (or someone else) did (and it's also a smaller file). Also moved it from PD to fairuse, since whatever the guy who ripped it thinks he can release it as, they're copyrighted sprites from the game. As for use, that could work (I'd have to see it) - and maybe they could be useful at Piklopedia, like we did with Treasure Hoard. How complete is it (no time to check now)? GP
Sorry, I'm the one who did the rearrangement. I had a "different original" that was ripped by someone else (that was very messy), and I was doing the best I could to fix it up. As a side note, when I uploaded it on Pikmin Fanon I did not list it as in public domain. I counted the images, there are 84, whereas the Piklopedia entries only go to 81, which I'm guessing means it is completed. Right off I can see that the Queen Candypop Bud and the Glowstem are repeats. However many other repeats there are I don't know. Vol (Talk)
It does seem like a good idea to use them on the Piklopedia article. They might not work that well for enemy articles, though (even if they're put inside the infobox). We'll have to, however, separate them. {EspyoT} 06:47, 10 March 2011 (EST)
I have all of the enemies separated. The only problem is that I don't have any bosses and any plants separated, just enemies. But don't worry, I can separate them pretty quickly. About where we would put them would have to be on the Piklopedia article on the table right after or before the species name. The one and only,Artwork of three Dwarf Orange Bulborbs.Peanut64.

Hi

Me Jello Rabbit. Seeing that there are no active bureaucrats on the Pikmin Wikia can I become a sysop there. Thank you -Jello Rabbit from Wikia.
...Don't feel like editing here instead?
...Wait, you know you have a total of 11 edits there, right? GP
Yeah, but someone has to still help the wiki and guard it from spam and vandalism. jello Rabbit. And I might edit here if I have some time willing to fo it.
Well, I don't see why not. Done. GP
Me, Jello Rabbit. My sysop powers on Pikmin Wikia is great! I am taking care of it seeing of the move here. Do you think that is great? Jello Rabbit 07:35, 7 May 2011 (EDT)
Do I think your sysop powers are great? What kind of question is that? GP
I said, "Do you think it is great that I am taking care on Pikmin Wikia during the community's inactiveness there". Jello Rabbit 07:50, 7 May 2011 (EDT)
Oh. Not particularly. GP
Why? You rather think I should have sysop powers here? Jello Rabbit 07:57, 7 May 2011 (EDT)
...Not quite. I just don't see the point in cleaning up the old wiki when everyone's moved here. GP
Even old wikis need cleanup. So... can I have the rights here too to do some cleanup on some houskeeping pages and badly named files? Jello Rabbit 08:01, 7 May 2011 (EDT)

You don't need any rights to move pages. GP

I know that. I wanted to delete some housekeeping stuff here too. I am the rollback guy on Pokemon Wikia so... just to tell you. I am new that is why I can't move pages. Jello Rabbit 08:07, 7 May 2011 (EDT)
You're not even autoconfirmed and you're asking for admin rights? GP
I am, but the sysop powers can wait. Jello Rabbit 09:31, 7 May 2011 (EDT)

Bcrat on Pikmin Wikia

Seeing that there are no active b-crats on the Pikipedia on Wikia. Think you could promote me to one there? We need a healthy wiki growing there too. Jello Rabbit 06:19, 14 June 2011 (EDT)
I don't see why we do, but sure. GP

Badges

Hi Green, I'm Blueflower999. I just joined the independent Pikipedia today. I noticed that a lot of the users have badges on their user page that says something like, "This user speaks fluent Leet" or, "This user likes Breadbugs". Can you show me how to make them? Bulbear! Blueflower999 09:51, 20 July 2011 (EDT)

The easiest way is to use Template:Userbox; see Help:Editing#Templates and inclusions for how to use templates. You can also try Category:Pikipedia userboxes for examples (edit them to see what code goes into them), but I don't think many, if any, use the template. Of course, you can just use any of those examples yourself as well, by transcluding them ({{namespace:page name}}).
...Oh, and sorry for taking so long to answer this; I was on holiday for a few days. GP 16:24, 23 July 2011 (EDT)

Thanks Greeny! Bulbear! Blueflower999 21:36, 23 July 2011 (EDT)

About your "Pikmin Weights" section

I remember wondering that too, as I played Pikmin 2 the Ship stated that Yellow Pikmin are "light" and "nimble". My guess is that the yellow Pikmin's ear acts as a sort of wing, or air catcher so it glides higher. I know that isn't right because the Pikmin "roll" in the air, but Nintendo didn't intend for the game to be exactly right. The one and only,Artwork of three Dwarf Orange Bulborbs.Peanut64.

No more Wikia pain!!

I found a code that will redirect users from the old Pikipedia on wikia to here.

if ( wgUserGroups === null || typeof( wgUserGroups ) != null && wgUserGroups.join(' ').indexOf( 'staff' ) == -1 && wgUserGroups.join(' ').indexOf( 'helper' ) == -1 && wgUserGroups.join(' ').indexOf( 'vstf' ) == -1 && wgUserGroups.join(' ').indexOf( 'sysop' ) == -1 && wgUserGroups.join(' ').indexOf( 'bureaucrat' ) == -1 ) { window.location = 'http://pikminwiki.com/wiki/' + wgPageName;

}

Put it in Pikmin Wikia's Common.JS and you'll be good to go. The one and only,Artwork of three Dwarf Orange Bulborbs.Peanut64.
That's pretty awesome, but the guys at Wikia being the children they are, they'd notice traffic drops on that wiki immediately and would find out that script is redirecting users from their crap domain. They'd remove the script and probably ban whoever added the script from Wikia. {EspyoT} 17:33, 6 August 2011 (EDT)

I think Wikia staff don't get redirected, and they don't look at the relatively small wikis usually unless they ask for help. I doubt they would notice it, they don't seem to have on the wikia Pikmin Fanon.SirPikmin,Sir Pikmin.jpgYour Bold Pikmin KnightContributions
When we tried posting message boxes that told people we moved, they quickly noticed it and removed it. You sure they don't care now? If not, then we can put it. Alas, I can't do it either, I edit some Wikias too. Maybe we can create a quick temporary account and add it. If they ban that temp account, there'll be no loss. {EspyoT} 21:08, 6 August 2011 (EDT)
Right, but who cares if you do get banned? I'm never gonna help wikia again! It's all really their loss. The one and only,Artwork of three Dwarf Orange Bulborbs.Peanut64.
Green edits on a couple Wikia wikis it seems, so he may care if he gets banned.SirPikmin,Sir Pikmin.jpgYour Bold Pikmin KnightContributions
Oh, well, It's his decision. A couple of wikis on wikia or more Pikipedia traffic. The one and only,Artwork of three Dwarf Orange Bulborbs.Peanut64.
Link to page and I'll do it. Idk where it is...--Prezintenden
I would like to point out that Wikia may quite easily spot this conversation if the code is added, then ban the people who have been planning in public here. Besides, if you just create another account, they will find any other accounts which use the same IP very easily, and most proxies are banned already. Not a good idea to do it. --SnorlaxMonster 12:43, 7 August 2011 (EDT)
Indeed. We could create a new account on a public computer or something, but the fact that this convo is here is still bad. This could all be avoided if they would just stop being so proud of their shameful site. There was even a discussion here about one of the admins' stubbornness. {EspyoT} 13:16, 7 August 2011 (EDT)
That seems absurd. What right would they have to ban you for just thinking about something? I'd be the one who did it, and I don't plan on using my account there anymore anyway. At the very least they'd have to warn us once, and if they notice it immediately, then there's no use of trying again anyway. Really, I doubt it will cause much harm to anyone.--Prezintenden
And just because there is hardly any traffic to the old Pikipedia makes it all the more easy, like for instance, Pikmin Fanon has that code, and I put it on there a while ago. They are too busy with the wikia wikis that matter to even notice. Just put the code at the end of the Common.js on Wikia Pikipedia, simple. The one and only,Artwork of three Dwarf Orange Bulborbs.Peanut64.

I... Don't think it worked. It's redirecting me to Special:WikiActivity. /coding extraordinaire --Prezintenden
