Pikmin Finder is a browser-based AR advergame created to promote Pikmin 4 at the Nintendo Live 2023 event in Seattle. The gameplay involves looking around to find sprouts, plucking them, and sending those Pikmin to find treasures. The game features all 9 main Pikmin types and Oatchi, with Glow Pikmin only available to find from 8 pm to 8 am in the player’s timezone, and all others available to find any other time throughout the day. The game has 20 treasures to find in total. Once all 20 have been found, a prompt appears to reset all game progress and collect the Pikmin and treasures again.

Gameplay

After plucking the group of Pikmin that appear upon opening the website and allowing the required permissions, a button appears to send those Pikmin and others that have been plucked to retrieve a treasure. Once the treasure is brought back, it is added to the list of all treasures that have been discovered so far, and a button to find more Pikmin appears. The amount of sprouts and the maturity of the Pikmin is random each time, and Glow Pikmin simply need to be tapped rather than plucked. There is also a chance that not all Pikmin types or Oatchi will be discovered before collecting all treasures and restarting the game from the beginning. This gameplay loop continues the same for all treasures, with different types of Pikmin available to find, depending on the time of day. The order treasures are discovered in is different each time the game is restarted, besides the first treasure being the Stately Rubber Cutie, and the last treasure being the Crimson Banquet.

The menu of the game features primarily the player's camera view, where Pikmin can be plucked and sent off to carry treasures back to their starting location. At the top right of the screen is a clock showing the player's current time. At the bottom of the screen is a taskbar showing (from left to right), a button to open the help menu, a button to open a menu that shows all of the treasures that the player has received so far, a button to take a picture, and a bubble with art of a Red Pikmin, showing the player's total amount of discovered Pikmin, with an additional icon of Oatchi that appears to the side of it after discovering Oatchi. Taking pictures of the game with the provided picture button takes a picture of what is currently seen through the camera and shown with AR. If there is nothing showing with AR, the picture will only show the time it was taken (with the words “found at XX:XX”). If there is just a Pikmin type shown, a flower icon and the name of the type of Pikmin will be shown with the time the picture was taken. If there is a treasure on screen, the name of the treasure will be shown. All images have the modern Pikmin series logo at the top left.
