An untitled Pikmin mobile application developed by Niantic and Nintendo has been announced for mobile devices, featuring augmented reality. It was announced on March 23, 2021, and it is set to release later in 2021.[1]

Known information

  • The app will be an augmented reality game involving exploring the real world.[2]
  • It will feature gameplay activities to encourage walking.[3][4]
  • Red, Yellow, and Blue Pikmin appear, and their flowers appear to be either white, red, yellow, or blue.
  • It will be very different to Pokémon GO.[5]

History

The application was announced on March 23rd, 2020, simultaneously by Nintendo and Niantic, on Twitter[1][2] and their own websites[3][4]. The initial announcements featured some text and a single image. People could sign up on the Niantic website to receive updates and invitations to closed testing access.[6] Developers at Niantic also tweeted about the game.[5]
