The Distant Tundra is an area in Pikmin 3. Similar to the Valley of Repose in Pikmin 2, this area represents the season of Winter. In the beginning of the game, Captain Charlie lands here when the S.S. Drake crashes and discovers Yellow Pikmin. After entering a cave and defeating the Phosbats inside, Charlie is captured by an unknown creature.

Later, Alph and Brittany travel here after obtaining the Data Glutton from the Armored Mawdad. Upon the Alph and Brittany's first visit, Alph accidentally crashes the S.S. Drake and, as a result, Brittany falls out of the ship. Coincidentally, her landing site is the location of the Yellow Onion. After building bridges from both sides of the river to an island in the middle, Brittany is able to return to the S.S. Drake with the "new" Pikmin. Eventually, the two enter the same cave Charlie was kidnapped in and find his captor to be the Vehemoth Phosbat. After defeating the boss, Charlie emerges from its mouth covered in goo. A 100 bonus is given if the boss is defeated with only three yellow Pikmin , which is possible. After it, a cameo is shown of what looks like a few Winged Pikmin flying by, before the day ending.
