Chatroom and Forum
Hi Porplemontage. Anyways, are a forum and a chatroom going to be implemented when things are all sorted out? --Gamefreak75
- Yeah, they can be. Is there a preferred chat channel to connect to or do we need to create one? --Porplemontage 22:14, 14 September 2010 (EDT)
- Like how MarioWiki connects directly to #mwikitalk? I say just create one on DarkMyst titled something like #pikchat or another related name. --Gamefreak75
- In that case, the wiki admins can create the channel and then give me the info to connect to it. --Porplemontage 22:25, 14 September 2010 (EDT)
- Doesn't Pikmin:Chatroom work? We were using the creator's libraries which could have moved, so it may not: instead of update right now, could you install the AddHTML extension to avoid extra JavaScript? Then upload the needed files from the latest version.
- In that case, the wiki admins can create the channel and then give me the info to connect to it. --Porplemontage 22:25, 14 September 2010 (EDT)
- Like how MarioWiki connects directly to #mwikitalk? I say just create one on DarkMyst titled something like #pikchat or another related name. --Gamefreak75
- Alternatively, if the server has Perl support, this is a lot faster than any Java client. If you do this, it looks like you'll need room details - #pikipedia@irc.darkmyst.org - and will probably have to set it up off the wiki. Greenpickle
- Oh, missed the forum mention. There'll be the old DPL forum once it's moved, but we were considering a separate cross-wiki forum at forum.pikminwiki.com, IIRC. phpBB is good.
- Finally, could you change the wiki's name to Pikipedia? Whatever will affect SITENAME and page titles. I'd assume LocalSettings.php. Greenpickle
- Oh, and could we have MultiUpload, please? I've found it useful in the past and realised we don't have it when I saw the link on special:upload. Greenpickle
- Hey, why are project (at least) links case-sensitive for the first letter now? Is that something you can turn off, or is it enable and un-disable-able in newer MW versions? Greenpickle
We could do PJIRC or use web chat like this. MultiUpload is not compatible. Project titles are Pikipedia:X. I don't understand how Pikmin:X makes any sense since it implies that those articles are about Pikmin when they are actually about the wiki. --Porplemontage 16:02, 15 September 2010 (EDT)
- Yeah, go on, Mibbit's good, I just didn't consider it since it's external. Make a note here once it's up and I'll delete the old one, remove the javascript and move the help page. Project pages: ah, I see; I just assumed 'Pikmin' remained the project namespace as it was at Wikia: so those pages are in the main namespace now, which explains the case sensitivity. I'll have to move them all and leave redirects behind. Greenpickle
- The automated welcome is bad because it doesn't substitute the welcome template, it's impersonal (...more accurately as a contrast, has no potential to be personal), and it doesn't discriminate (could welcome a vandal; obviously not the biggest problem, but...). Could you disable it? I couldn't find anything in its documentation to indicate how you would do that beyond uninstalling it. Greenpickle
- Hmm, Porplemontage, is it possible to implement a forum like the Mario Wiki one? That way, things will be much more organized. --Gamefreak75
- I think everyone agrees a legitimate forum should be added at some point. --Porplemontage 17:02, 16 September 2010 (EDT)
- Hmm, Porplemontage, is it possible to implement a forum like the Mario Wiki one? That way, things will be much more organized. --Gamefreak75
- Could you add Forum and Forum talk namespaces, please? That should fix the existing DPL forums.Greenpickle
The web chat is up, there are some messages to edit the text around it. Namespace added, welcome removed. --Porplemontage 17:02, 16 September 2010 (EDT)
- Thanks. What do you mean, 'messages'? As in, mediawiki pages, or strings in the code you would have to edit? I think everything I see is fine as it is, anyway. Oh, a link to Help:Chat would be useful, though. GP
- Referring to the MediaWiki pages, aka system messages. Here's the header (which is actually the only one). --Porplemontage 19:26, 17 September 2010 (EDT)
- Hey, could you install mw:Extension:DismissableSiteNotice, please? GP
- Either you already added it, or I'm going crazy. I'm sure it wasn't at special:version when I asked... GP
- I added it. --Porplemontage 19:26, 17 September 2010 (EDT)
Can I have the info for SMF? --Sir Pikmin
- I was just going to give out FTP info for a subdomain and info for a database and let you guys install whatever forum system you want. Should the subdomain be forum.pikminwiki.com, forums.pikminwiki.com, or something else? --Porplemontage 15:40, 18 September 2010 (EDT)
- I like forums.pikminwiki.com, but let's wait for Green to chime in before we decide.SirPikmin,Your Bold Pikmin KnightContributions
- Ok then, forums.pikminwiki.com it is!SirPikmin,Your Bold Pikmin KnightContributions
Someone give me an email address and I'll send out the info. --Porplemontage 17:21, 18 September 2010 (EDT)
- Special:EmailUser/Sir Pikmin. It can also be found by clicking on the pikmin sprite in my sig. SirPikmin,Your Bold Pikmin KnightContributions
- Ok. --Porplemontage 18:52, 18 September 2010 (EDT)
I'm going to delete these PHP files and I'll get it going for you. --Porplemontage 19:50, 18 September 2010 (EDT)
It's installed [1] --Porplemontage 20:14, 18 September 2010 (EDT)
Anonymous edits
For the reasons I outlined at the old fanon wiki forum, I think anonymous users should be able to edit. GP
- Ok --Porplemontage 16:12, 20 September 2010 (EDT)
Just to clarify, the boards at forums.pikminwiki.com are for use by both wikis as the inter-wiki forum right? I want to make sure before I do anything to big on them.SirPikmin,Your Bold Pikmin KnightContributions
- Yeah. So you could create separate sections or handle that however you want. --Porplemontage 23:03, 21 September 2010 (EDT)
Video
Could you install the EmbedVideo extension, please? It would be useful to have alignment/resizing functionality that the YouTube extension doesn't seem to provide. GP
- Ok --Porplemontage 11:13, 27 September 2010 (EDT)
- Hey, what happened to this? GP
- I've updated the YouTube extension to Wikia's version which allows resizing and sources other than YouTube. You should be able to accomplish everything with this now. --Porplemontage 17:54, 1 November 2010 (EDT)
- Hey, what happened to this? GP
- Okay, just would've expected some warning you'd changed it. GP
- Sorry about that. --Porplemontage 19:00, 1 November 2010 (EDT)
- Okay, just would've expected some warning you'd changed it. GP
Could you just replace it with EmbedVideo again? I'm not sure why you changed it - EmbedVideo supports more sources and resizing. Further, it's a parser function, so templates with variable inputs work, unlike with the YouTube extension. GP
- Sure. --Porplemontage 13:10, 7 November 2010 (EST)
Deleting an account made by mistake
See here. Accidentally created an account with the wrong name. Is it possible to have it removed? Please and thanks. —Jimbo Jambo 16:23, 29 September 2010 (EDT)
- Accounts aren't actually deleted, so we can just leave it. --Porplemontage 18:07, 29 September 2010 (EDT)
SVG image format
I don't know if you've been following, but some vectorial images have been created for the hazard icons. Read this if you're interested. The problem is that some of them don't show up correctly. Greenpickle hinted that it has to do with the renderer chosen, and suggested that I talked to you about it. If it's not a wholesome of trouble, could you change the renderer to Inkscape? That way, the images would show up correctly. {EspyoT} 16:39, 13 October 2010 (EDT)
- I'm looking into this; thanks. --Porplemontage 17:38, 15 October 2010 (EDT)
- How's it going along, Porple? I don't want to alarm you, but while this isn't resolved, some templates are using the vectorial images, some aren't, and other are using the "corrupted" vectorial images. {EspyoT} 20:24, 30 October 2010 (EDT)
- Going to have to use PNGs for now. I want to upgrade our rasterizer but we have the latest version for our OS. --Porplemontage 17:56, 1 November 2010 (EDT)

- What version, of what rasteriser? librsvg 2.26.3 works fine here. GP
- We're using librsvg 2.16.1 on CentOS and I don't know why the images are coming out glitchy. I'm open to suggestions. --Porplemontage 19:00, 1 November 2010 (EDT)
- What version, of what rasteriser? librsvg 2.26.3 works fine here. GP
- Well, I guess you could try compiling a later version, see if the dependencies aren't going to be too much of a nightmare. I can't really offer anything else. GP
- There are incompatible dependencies; doesn't look good. --Porplemontage 19:30, 1 November 2010 (EDT)

Favicon/logo
It's possible to point the favicon and logo to normal files uploaded on the wiki, right? Could you do that with File:Favicon.png and File:Logo.png, then? GP
- I can just swap out the favicon. Logo is updated. --Porplemontage 20:08, 20 October 2010 (EDT)
- Hmm, if Wikia can do it with the favicon, why can't we? Don't worry, though, it's only a small convenience. GP
- Alright, well, it's being done with File:Favicon.ico now. --Porplemontage 18:46, 21 October 2010 (EDT)
- Can you please do that for Pikmin Fanon with a File:Logo.png and File:Wiki.png as well? Vol (Talk)
- The favicon has to be an ico file. --Porplemontage 20:27, 21 October 2010 (EDT)
- Isn't it already an ico file? If not, what is it now? Vol (Talk)
- Do you want Logo.png or Wiki.png to be the logo? --Porplemontage 00:28, 22 October 2010 (EDT)

Hey I made it Wiki.png already. --Porplemontage 18:52, 22 October 2010 (EDT)
- It doesn't have to be ICO; PNG works fine, just not for IE <= 6. GP
- All versions of IE don't work with anything except ICO. --Porplemontage 16:07, 22 October 2010 (EDT)

Oh m god
STEVE!!!
- Hi. --Porplemontage 16:22, 28 October 2010 (EDT)
Halopedia stuff appearing
See my talk page. GP
- All deleted. --Porplemontage 16:22, 28 October 2010 (EDT)
Pikmin Fanon
This might just be my computer, but... Pikmin Fanon isn't working. Vol (Talk)
- Looks ok here... The theme is orange, and last time I checked, it wasn't. That's about it. If it didn't work at all with you, you could've used this site. {EspyoT} 20:28, 30 October 2010 (EDT)
User page protection
I remember user pages being protected against edits by other users, but this no longer seems to be the case. What happened? GP
- I did some cleaning and removed this since it's not the default and some people didn't like it. I've added it back here... --Porplemontage 15:28, 9 November 2010 (EST)
Poem extension
Could you install it here? mw:Extension:Poem. GP
- Sure thing. --Porplemontage 11:17, 15 December 2010 (EST)
ForcePreview extension
(Discussion (...not much, no) at Forum:Spammers.) Looks like it would be good. As discussed, please only have it enabled for anonymous users. Thanks in advance. GP
- Ok. An alternative to this is to a require a math problem to be solved by all guests (which is currently only required by guests adding new links). --Porplemontage 19:45, 17 January 2011 (EST)
- I'm pretty sure we've decided to do the math problem thing now (see Forum:Spammers). Vol (Talk)
- Ok. --Porplemontage 22:02, 19 January 2011 (EST)
Creating an account fails
Apparently the captcha's broken or something; the error message ('Incorrect or missing confirmation code.') definitely comes from the ConfirmEdit extension. This is only displayed when it thinks you've failed the captcha, which I'm definitely not doing. GP
- Thank you. --Porplemontage 16:28, 16 February 2011 (EST)
reuploads
I've been told they don't work (for non-admins?); could you enable them? It should be the stuff here. GP
- Refer to Special:ListGroupRights. Normal users can reupload their own images but they need to be autoconfirmed to reupload other images. Autoconfirmed is 10 edits and 4 days, so RAP is basically 2 edits from gaining the right. --Porplemontage 03:52, 2 March 2011 (EST)
Anti-Spam Measure
As discussed here, will you make it so only auto-confirmed users can create new articles and upload images? Vol (Talk)
- First I want to try the questions captcha. Any ideas for more questions? --Porplemontage 23:48, 10 March 2011 (EST)
- I have some ideas (you might already have similar ones). I put examples below.
- What is the second to last letter of the alphabet?
- Which letter comes after "N"?
- what is the third letter in "automobile"?
- Type in the following word backwards: <word goes here>.
- If you replace the "w" in "walk" with a "t", what word will it become?
- The Earth orbits around the ______.
- The Sun is not out during the night, it is out during the ______.
- Roses, daisies, and tulips are all _______.
- If you have ten coins and you spend five of them, you will end up with ______ coins.
- If you drop wood on water, it ________.
- I have some ideas (you might already have similar ones). I put examples below.
- So, those are a few ideas I came up with. Hope they help.
- I'm pretty sure some woods sink. (Besides, if you're dropping it and it does float, assuming the water's still, you're going to get (near enough) damped simple harmonic motion...) Also, I have no ideas, and the rest of Vol's suggestions sound fine. Of course, some others have silly technical ambiguities, but nothing anyone with common sense is going to care about (...). GP
Category paging
Seems to be broken. Try category:treasures, category:screenshots: click on 'next' and it shows the same page again. You can see the GET parameter in the URL, but MediaWiki's not respecting it. However, if you change 'pagefrom' or 'filefrom' to 'from', it works - so I'm guessing something didn't get updated in an upgrade or something. GP 06:10, 23 August 2011 (EDT)
- Thanks for letting me know; the CategoryTree extension needed a little update. --Porplemontage 06:36, 23 August 2011 (EDT)
Notes namespace
Could you add a 'notes' namespace (and talk) please? GP 08:52, 16 March 2012 (EDT)
- Sure thing. --Porplemontage 09:19, 16 March 2012 (EDT)
Patroller extension
Hey, we seem to have lost the Patroller extension (provides special:patrol) - I assume it's due to an upgrade, so is it not working with the latest MW? If it is, it'd be nice to have it back. GP 08:32, 19 May 2012 (EDT)
- Yeah it wasn't working, but it's back now. --Porplemontage 13:10, 19 May 2012 (EDT)
ReplaceText extension
Please take a look at the discussion here and consider installing the extension mentioned. Thanks. GP 16:09, 30 July 2012 (EDT)
- Sorry, but I find that extension to be too database-intensive. --Porplemontage (talk) 17:34, 30 July 2012 (EDT)
