Analysis of data in ''Super Smash Bros. Brawl'' has yielded the information that the Distant Planet stage is also referred to by the name "Earth" (
STGEARTH
, more precisely). This is deemed comparable to a debug name, only used while developing the game, but it makes clear that Nintendo developers see the planet as Earth.
Internally, in {{p3}}, the files for the [[Menu#Area selection|area selection]] monitor call the view "Pangaea Ultima" (
Pangaeaultima_a.gtx
, for instance). Similarly, in {{ssbb}}, the Distant Planet stage is referred to by the name "Earth" (
STGEARTH
, more precisely). These names were only used between developers, and likely used as placeholders, but it makes it clear that the developers see the planet as Earth.

On Nintendo Power issue #278, it is revealed the editors believe that the planet is Earth. The canon and affirmation of this statement is up for debate, however.
