Purple Pikmin are found in Pikmin 2 and you first find them in the Emergence Cave. You need them to get 3 treasures, and are useful for defeating enemies. They are very heavy, but like ants, they carry several times their weight! They can carry the weight of 10 other Pikmin. They weigh ten times as much as an ordinary Pikmin. They're also the only pikmin that have any traces of hair. Their weight however slows them down when they move or carry items. Their battle abilities are superb because when you throw them, they make enemies bounce and may stun them for 8-10 seconds.  When attacking small enemies, just bouncing the enemies will stun them.  Medium to large enemies need a direct hit and bosses will not become paralyzed from their weight usually. When they land, their weight also causes damage, and their attacks are good as well. They are good for killing the mature Bulborbs as well, especially the Emperor Bulblax. You may find 3 Violet Candypop Buds on Sublevel 8 of the Subterranean Complex (Valley of Repose) if you need more. ==criticisms==

Despite their fame, Purple Pikmin have been heavily critisized for their slowness, and their tendency to become stuck in corners. This forces the player to backtrack and find them, and it can be even harder during sundown. They've also been critisized for their low arc when thrown: When a Pikmin is thrown, they fly up in an arc and land back down on either an creature or the ground. When Purples are thrown, their arcs are very low, and even worse so is that they stop halfway to preform a groundpound. Regardless, Purples are considered by many fans to be a very welcome addition to the Pikmin family.
