Okay, so we established that small Pikmin are required to make the gifs so that the animations are shown efficiently. However, there are MANY sizes of Pikmin (I think five) and chances are that the tiniest Pikmin size may not be used, as well as we may not have a consistent size for every gif. If that is going to be the case, I suggest that any of the possible two small size could still be used.
