So, as I see it, while the translation made some changes to the notes that make it sound like they could also describe the Spiderwort, that is probably a coincidence, because everything the translation says (besides the pie thing) is also in the Japanese version, which is clearly not describing the Spiderwort. Uhh, this is too long an answer I know, but I hope this answers your question! [[User:2 B|2 B]] ([[User talk:2 B|talk]]) 17:11, March 25, 2024 (EDT)

Oh really? Thanks for explaining, I wasn't aware of that. Well, I guess mentioning it still sounds as if it is describing a Burgeoning Spiderwort is noteworthy. {{User:Cheepy/sig}} 19:47, March 26, 2024 (EDT)

Template:Featured image

Hey, I noticed you recently edited Template:Featured image, and mentioned in the edit summary that it would be nice if more images were added. A while ago I thought it would be a nice idea to completely revamp that template, and go through Pikipedia's entire file catalogue to choose a good set of high-quality images for the template. I kind of wanted to do it, but with over 10,000 images, searching them all for good ones would not be a fun task. Were you planning on going through images to add to the template? If you were, can I help with the task? If you weren't, do you think it would be a good idea to set up a featured image system on Pikipedia? I'd be open to going through the list, but only if it was worked out in advance how a proper image featuring system would work, and how the template would fit on the Main Page. — Soprano(talk) 02:52, April 13, 2022 (EDT)

If there were far fewer than 10,000 images and I wasn't already so busy cleaning up the Pikmin Fanon, I would consider going through them all. Reimplementing the featured image system would be a splendid idea. It could cycle through images the community considers high-quality. The template could be placed on the left side, and where I think it would fit best is on the right of, or below, on mobile, the featured article template. ~ Contributions Cheepy (talk)
Perhaps we should also bring back Template:Excerpt; then the featured image template could go on the left of the page and the excerpt template could go on the right, above Template:Did you know? I'd be fine with starting a project to gradually revive these templates, but we'd probably want to get Espyo's approval first. Espyo, what do you think of this idea? — Soprano(talk) 18:00, April 13, 2022 (EDT)
Sounds excellent! Both of those templates will look great like that. ~ Contributions Cheepy (talk)
Reviving the templates would be nice, though having them both on the front page wouldn't be a good idea. By themselves they might not have enough content to be varied and useful enough, but if either one shows up, decided at random, it would be more interesting. Plus, adding too much content to the front page isn't a good idea. Readers should be able to find what they want easily, from all facets of the wiki. The featured image and excerpt templates are good ways to browse for random content, but they're not as central as actual categories and such. Presenting the user with a noisy front page makes things feel non-cohesive and cumbersome. — {EspyoT} 17:29, May 4, 2022 (EDT)
Those are good points. Curse my need to have all of everything! ~ Contributions Cheepy (talk)
The problem with that is I can't think of a way that the Main Page, with its two-column style, could fit just one extra box; there would have to be two to avoid having a large empty space. I think it would be cool to revive these templates, but I'm not going to start the long process until there's a consensus that it's necessary. Would it help the wiki to do this? — Soprano(talk) 20:44, May 5, 2022 (EDT)
I'm sure there are plenty of people that peruse Pikipedia just to read about Pikmin content, or outright read. Sure, there's the random page button, but I'd think having a random image or excerpt on the main page would be enticing to click on to see or read more. Maybe the two templates could be merged if two is too many. ~ Contributions Cheepy (talk)
I've started going through the alphabetical image list and making a list of the ones I consider feature-worthy. It'll be a long time before I finish, but when I do, I'll post the list here. — Soprano(talk) 00:30, May 13, 2022 (EDT)
Excellent! I can't wait to see it. ~ Contributions Cheepy (talk)
Some time has passed, and I'm done! I've looked through every image on the wiki, selected the ones I thought were feature-worthy, and then did a second pass through the ones I chose so I would have the best selection. The result is this list of 124 images, presented here in random order:
What do you think of this list? Are there any images you think should not be there? — Soprano(talk) 04:59, August 5, 2022 (EDT)
I think those are all great! Excellent work. There are some in there I don't like too much, but I'll respect your choices. After all, you did painstakingly go through every image on the wiki. ~ Contributions Cheepy (talk)
Thanks! I tried to focus on high-quality screenshots with interesting composition, and also included some maps because they tend to be good images. I avoided tall images, textures, unused content, and prerelease images, though I did include some prerelease images with no visual differences from the final game, and I included the area selection menu background textures because they're interesting. So now that we have all of these, what's next? Is it time to put them all in Template:Featured image and add a caption for each? Should a category be created for these images? And should there be an official process for adding images to the list? — Soprano(talk) 17:27, August 5, 2022 (EDT)
Yes, to all of those. I can add them and their captions to the template so you don't have to. The process for adding images to the list could be similar to that of featured articles. ~ Contributions Cheepy (talk)
Thanks for setting up the template! I made some improvements, and started adding the images to a new category, though I'm not sure if we need the category since you added a gallery to the template documentation, which would make a category a bit redundant and hard to maintain. Do you think we still need a featured images category? Also, I noticed that the template (which now updates daily) just happens to very close to reaching the end of the list and looping back to the beginning. Should we try and have it ready to add to the Main Page on the same day it starts from the beginning of the list? It doesn't matter if we don't have all the captions done by then, as the template only updates once a day, giving plenty of time to add captions to the later images while earlier ones are being shown. — Soprano(talk) 20:15, August 11, 2022 (EDT)
I saw! They're much appreciated. Honestly, I really just placed the gallery there so I could conveniently view every image as I wrote captions for them, so it's not entirely necessary. Regardless of whether the gallery ultimately stays or goes, which I have no opinions about, the featured image category should stay because the featured articles have a category. I think it would be nice to inaugurate the template on the day of it looping back to the beginning of its collection. I was hoping to add more captions tomorrow, anyway. ~ Contributions Cheepy (talk)

Template:Excerpt

Well, we've revived Template:Featured image, and it's gone successfully! Now, there's one other template that used to be on the Main Page and is no longer there, Template:Excerpt. This shows a random quote using the {{notes}} template. However, it hasn't been updated in a few years and some of its links are broken as a result. It also has a very limited selection of quotes. It would be nice if this template was expanded and brought back to the Main Page as well. Do you think it would be worth doing this? It would be easier than the featured image project, though it would still require looking through hundreds of quotes... — Soprano(talk) 04:01, August 25, 2022 (EDT)

Yes, it would absolutely be worth bringing this template back. I can take a look at it and see what I can do. ~ Contributions Cheepy (talk)

Screenshots from US version

Hello, I saw you added a comment to an image I uploaded, saying the screenshot should be replaced with the US version. Is it wiki policy to have game screenshots come from the US versions of the games, unless otherwise stated? I could not find this detail in the guidelines and policies section of the wiki, so if it is, perhaps it would be a good idea to make an amendment? Either way, I'll keep it in mind. Thanks! --Veldhuis94 (talk) 17:46, August 16, 2022 (EDT)

Wiki policy states that content should focus primarily on the US version of games, but also focus on the European and Japanese releases where appropriate. I actually just removed the comment I left on that file because I figured there could be a screenshot of the "final sublevel" message in all three releases of Pikmin 2. ~ Contributions Cheepy (talk)
Isn't it the exact same message in both English versions? If so, it doesn't matter at all what version is used. We don't need a screenshot of the Japanese version, since we don't even need to document what the Japanese text. Even if we did, we can just write the text out. — {EspyoT} 12:10, August 18, 2022 (EDT)
Apparently, it's "FINAL LEVEL!" in EU, and "FINAL FLOOR!" in US. --Veldhuis94 (talk) 13:28, August 18, 2022 (EDT)
More important than the policy of prioritizing the US version is the goal to have all regional versions documented on the wiki. For that reason, it's fine to have an image of the final floor message from the European version, as long as the caption explains that it's different in the US version. We don't really need an image from the US version, in my opinion. — Soprano(talk) 03:30, August 19, 2022 (EDT)
I've made some clarifications about the regional differences on the article. I think it works like this!  :) Tell me what you think! --Veldhuis94 (talk) 04:41, August 19, 2022 (EDT)
Looks good! ~ Contributions Cheepy (talk)

Regarding the Cupid's Grenade notes

Yes, I don't think it's a mistake, per se. As far as I understand, the English version of the notes are mostly the same as the Japanese version, just a with a few differences. Those are (besides the Louie pie thing):

  • The berry's plant is referred to as a tree, which cherry trees of course are, but spiderworts aren't. However, calling a tree a plant is of course not a mistake.
  • The two kinds of berry are said to be called "Yabure" and "Kabure". This is a reference to the treasure's Japanese name of "Yaburekabure", which is probably why it was removed.
  • The "stimulating" and "supressing" effects of the berries are explicitly referring to stimulating/surpressing the love instinct, which is consistent with the treasure's love theme. Not sure why this good removed, but it was re-added in the European Wii version.

2 B (talk) 17:11, March 25, 2024 (EDT)
