The Sphere Chart is one of the devices in the Exploration Kit. Its purpose is as a source of data on the Pikmin planet; specifically, in Pikmin 2, it provides the ship with co-ordinates that allow the player to progress to the Awakening Wood. For this, you'll need to retrieve the Spherical Atlas, which is located in the Emergence Cave, in the Valley of Repose.
