Olimar's spacesuit is white with red gloves. It includes a clear helmet with a red antenna. There is also a small red pack on the back which contains a life-support system. In Pikmin 1, Olimar's suit can only function for 30 days before the life-support batteries fail. A popular theory as to why the Pikmin follow Olimar is that the antenna on his helmet resembles a Pikmin stalk, therefore they view him as a Pikmin king.
The spacesuits are mandatory for the [[Captains]] to survive on the [[Planet of the Pikmin]], and are also their main defense against hazards and enemy attacks. Olimar's suit will spark when he takes damage from an enemy or hazard, and the health meter in the bottom-left corner of the screen will decrease. After Olimar is reduced to less than half his health, the meter will start to flash and a beeping noise will be heard. Any damage taken can be regenerated by standing in the light of the Dolphin and pressing A. This will not work with the Ship in Pikmin 2, so any damage is regenerated at the start of each day, as in Pikmin 1.

==Pikmin 2:Louie and the President==

In Pikmin 2, Olimar is joined by Louie (and later on, the president), whose spacesuit is similar in appearance to Olimar's, except that the gloves, pack and antenna are blue. The spacesuits' life-support systems are powered by the Ship, eliminating the need for a day limit.

The President's spacesuit is different to Olimar and Louie's, in that it is mainly composed of the suit that he was wearing on Hocotate. This suggests that the suit is airtight. The suit also includes golden gloves and pack, with a blue light. The President's whistle is also different to the other two; it sounds more like a car horn.

==All health lost==

If Olimar loses all his health, the message '''Olimar is Down!''' will be displayed, the day will end, and all working or idle Pikmin not under an Onion or the Dolphin will be eaten as normal. Olimar's health will be replenished at the start of the next day.

The spacesuits are mandatory for the Captains to survive on the Planet of the Pikmin, and are also their main defense against hazards and enemy attacks. The suits include a completely clear helmet that surrounds the entire head, and has a red antenna on top. There is a pack on the back which presumably contains the life-support system. Each captain has a differently sized and colored suit. In Pikmin 1, Olimar's suit can only function for 30 days before the life-support batteries fail.

The suits will spark when damage is taken from an enemy or hazard, and the health meter in the bottom-left corner of the screen will decrease. After the meter is reduced to less than half, it will start to flash and a beeping noise will be heard. Any damage taken can be regenerated by going to the next morning, or by standing in the light of the Dolphin and pressing A in the first game. This will not work with the Ship in Pikmin 2, so the player must survive until the start of the next day. However, if only one captain should be damaged too much, the player can continue the day with the other captain.

When a captain whistles, the antenna will emit rings of light which spread out at the point where the pointer is. Each captains whistle has a different sound.
