The Pikmin series currently consists of two games, Pikmin and Pikmin 2 (and their counterparts in the New Play Control! range on the Nintendo Wii), with a third in production. Both games have been scored well by critics, the sequel generally higher than Pikmin. There have been a number of rumours in the past concerning a Pikmin 3 being in production for the Wii, and on July 15, 2008 at a private conference, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that Pikmin 3 is in production. The total number of sales for the series is approximately 2.7 million[1].
Elements from the series also play parts in a number of other Nintendo games, most notably Super Smash Bros. Brawl, in which "Olimar & Pikmin" is a playable character, as well as a Pikmin stage and multiple soundtracks and trophies.
