This page is part of the merge with Pikmin Wiki, and needs resolving. Please bear with us as we do so. Before the import, this subject had a page both on Pikipedia and Pikmin Wiki. You are currently reading the Pikipedia version, and the Pikmin Wiki version can be found here. Both versions need to be manually merged together and placed on the current page. |
Hocotatians are apparently the dominant race of the planet Hocotate. They are referred to as "Hocotatians" in The Ship's announcement of the Massive Receptacle Series. They are about the size of a nickel (~2cm, ~0.7in), and appear to be more advanced than humans, and having superior, or at least equal intelligence. They are capable of efficient extraterrestrial exploration and interaction, and use devices far beyond the current technology of humans. Their primary means of communication is speech, and they are able to read and write.
Anatomy
They bear multiple resemblances to humans, including expressing human-like emotions; physically, Hocotatians have a humanoid shape, the main difference being a larger head-to-body ratio. Their eyes also seem to be either constantly closed, occasionally popping out. This can be seen in a cutscene in Pikmin 2, and every time Olimar is hit in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
However, their respiratory system works in an opposite or at least different way from regular humans. While oxygen is one of the keys to human survival, it's incredibly toxic to the Hocotations. Unfortunately, PNF-404's atmosphere is composed mostly of oxygen.
From what can be seen during the game, all Hocotatians have large, round noses and black, slitted eyes. When the pupils of the eyes contract, the iris of the eye can be seen, and iris color varies between Hocotatians; Louie is seen to have orange or brown irises while Olimar's wife has violet or purple irises.
They also all appear to have pointed ears, with the exception of Olimar's daughter, whose ears are not visible.
Life style
Hocotatians are a commercialized civilization, their currency being the Poko; commercial service and office exist in Hocotatian culture as well, with references to loan companies. The species has similar family structures to modern day western cultures: that is, husband, wife, children and even pets.
In Pikmin 3, Alph refers to Hocotatians as "treasure-loving vegetable-eaters", stating that meat rarely gets eaten on Hocotate. Strangely, many of Louie's dishes in Pikmin 2 involve meat, which Brittany is surprised to hear. In a conversation on the S.S. Drake, it is even stated that Hocotatians are vegetarians, and they discuss how Louie has survived by eating the creatures on this planet.
Psychology
Hocotatians have the ability to convey a wide range of emotion; in Olimar's Voyage Log, it can be seen that he becomes irritated with his wife, frightened after having a nightmare about Pikpik carrot soup, guilty upon a Pikmin Extinction, and joyous upon completing the repairs of his ship.
Hocotatians also differ in personality traits as seen by Olimar's wife's somewhat materialistic personality when compared to Olimar's love for music, science and art. Olimar also describes his boss as greedy and despicable, while Louie, in contrast, is described as quiet and brooding.
