Index of archives: 1
Hi Porplemontage. Anyways, are a forum and a chatroom going to be implemented when things are all sorted out? --Gamefreak75
----
:Yeah, they can be. Is there a preferred chat channel to connect to or do we need to create one? --Porplemontage 22:14, 14 September 2010 (EDT)
::Like how MarioWiki connects directly to #mwikitalk? I say just create one on DarkMyst titled something like #pikchat or another related name. --Gamefreak75
:::In that case, the wiki admins can create the channel and then give me the info to connect to it. --Porplemontage 22:25, 14 September 2010 (EDT)
::::Doesn't Pikmin:Chatroom work?  We were using the creator's libraries which could have moved, so it may not: instead of update right now, could you install the AddHTML extension to avoid extra JavaScript?  Then upload the needed files from the latest version.

::::Alternatively, if the server has Perl support, this is a lot faster than any Java client. If you do this, it looks like you'll need room details - #pikipedia@irc.darkmyst.org - and will probably have to set it up off the wiki. Greenpickle
Javascript woes
Hey. There have been a few difficulties with our scripts lately. Mostly in the sense of scripts that used to be running weren't running any more. I changed some things, and now almost everything is up, except for the MediaWiki:PikipediaUpload.js script. From the little that I can gather, Common.js isn't even running on Special:Upload. What can you tell me about this? &mdash; {Espyo[]} 09:09, 6 November 2016 (EST)
:Fixed it! --Porplemontage ([]) 11:48, 6 November 2016 (EST)
::Looks like every script is working perfectly. Thank you so much! &mdash; {Espyo[]} 12:02, 6 November 2016 (EST)

::::Oh, missed the forum mention.  There'll be the old DPL forum once it's moved, but we were considering a separate cross-wiki forum at forum.pikminwiki.com, IIRC.  phpBB is good.
Question
::::Finally, could you change the wiki's name to Pikipedia? Whatever will affect SITENAME and page titles.  I'd assume LocalSettings.php. Greenpickle
Im curious what the first edit on this Wiki was. On what page was it? TabuuandPeach 18:28, 24 November 2016 (EST)

::::Oh, and could we have MultiUpload, please? I've found it useful in the past and realised we don't have it when I saw the link on special:upload. Greenpickle
:Well, I guess this was the first non-bot edit. --Porplemontage ([]) 22:34, 24 November 2016 (EST)

::::Hey, why are project (at least) links case-sensitive for the first letter now?  Is that something you can turn off, or is it enable and un-disable-able in newer MW versions? Greenpickle
Mobile captcha problems
Hey. A user found a problem while editing the wiki under mobile: link. Basically, when trying to save, the wiki asks for a "confirmation code" (captcha, I'm guessing?) but there's no such thing anywhere.

We could do PJIRC or use web chat like this. MultiUpload is not compatible. Project titles are Pikipedia:X. I don't understand how Pikmin:X makes any sense since it implies that those articles are about Pikmin when they are actually about the wiki. --Porplemontage 16:02, 15 September 2010 (EDT)
It doesn't look like this is anon-user triggered, since anonymous users can't even edit the wiki under mobile. That's also another thing &ndash; since under desktop, users can edit without an account, why can't they under mobile? If you could make anons able to edit under mobile, that'd be great, but if not, don't sweat it. I think it's more important to have the code problem solved. Me and Marty also tried to edit using smartphones, but we were never asked for such a code, so maybe this only applies to non-autoconfirmed users.

:Yeah, go on, Mibbit's good, I just didn't consider it since it's external. Make a note here once it's up and I'll delete the old one, remove the javascript and move the help page.  Project pages: ah, I see; I just assumed 'Pikmin' remained the project namespace as it was at Wikia: so those pages are in the main namespace now, which explains the case sensitivity.  I'll have to move them all and leave redirects behind. Greenpickle
Oh, and a final thing. Do you mind if I send the older conversations here into an archive subpage? Your talk page is getting pretty heavy! &mdash; {Espyo[]} 15:23, 27 December 2016 (EST)

:The automated welcome is bad because it doesn't substitute the welcome template, it's impersonal (...more accurately as a contrast, has no potential to be personal), and it doesn't discriminate (could welcome a vandal; obviously not the biggest problem, but...).  Could you disable it?  I couldn't find anything in its documentation to indicate how you would do that beyond uninstalling it. Greenpickle
:Ok yeah, it looks like the captcha extension and mobile extension aren't playing well together. You're correct, autoconfirmed users would skip it, but now I've made it so all users skip it. We do need the captcha for anons though, so we can't enable mobile anon editing. Archive away! --Porplemontage ([]) 15:43, 27 December 2016 (EST)

::Hmm, Porplemontage, is it possible to implement a forum like the Mario Wiki one? That way, things will be much more organized. --Gamefreak75
::Sounds good. Thanks a million! &mdash; {Espyo<sup>[]</sup>} 17:18, 28 December 2016 (EST)
:::I think everyone agrees a legitimate forum should be added at some point. --Porplemontage 17:02, 16 September 2010 (EDT)

:Could you add Forum and Forum talk namespaces, please?  That should fix the existing DPL forums.Greenpickle
Parse error on Pikmin Fanon
The web chat is up, there are some messages to edit the text around it. Namespace added, welcome removed. --Porplemontage 17:02, 16 September 2010 (EDT)
Hey there Porple. Pikmin Fanon has been unavailable for over 24 hours because of a parse error, which reads:
<pre>Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ';', expecting ')' in /home/pikminfa/public_html/LocalSettings.php on line 384</pre> I thought if I gave it time, it would go away on its own, but... Could you resolve this? Thanks. 16:58, 29 January 2017 (EST)

:Thanks.  What do you mean, 'messages'?  As in, mediawiki pages, or strings in the code you would have to edit?  I think everything I see is fine as it is, anyway.  Oh, a link to Help:Chat would be useful, though. <span style="font-family:times;"><span style="color:#080;">G</span>[]</span>

Unpatrollable uploads
Hey. If an image is uploaded, and then a new version is uploaded on top, it'll become impossible to mark the first revision as patrolled. You can find examples on the recent changes with the farthest filter. Do you think you can do something about this glitch so that it doesn't happen again? Thanks! &mdash; {Espyo[]} 15:06, 14 February 2017 (EST)

One thing though...right now, the recent changes are filled with edits about how this or that revision has been marked patrolled, and all edits also seem to have become unpatrolled now. Greetings, Porplemontage. I am a Patroller of WiKirby. Currently, I am busy with multiple things there and elsewhere. However, in the near future, I may consider becoming more active around here. I'm familiar with editing wikis, but I know some wikis are quite different from each-other, regarding policies and such. That is why I've come to ask you if there is anything basic I need to know before I edit Pikipedia, and where the best place to get started is. -- MetaDragon ([]) 20:55, December 3, 2020 (EST)

Recent MediaWiki change
Shouldn't MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning only discuss specifically written content being released under (I beleive) CC-BY-SA 3.0U, as files and other media are generally uploaded with their own specific licensing? Trig - 22:06, February 1, 2021 (EST)
:The CC-BY-SA license applies to written content, so the warning is shown below the edit box, where written content is added. It's not shown on the file upload page since those licenses are different. --Porplemontage ([]) 22:12, February 1, 2021 (EST)

I'm going to delete these PHP files and I'll get it going for you. --Porplemontage 19:50, 18 September 2010 (EDT)
Pikmin Fanon CSS
Hello Porple, I was wondering if you could help me making Pikmin Fanon's layout share a similarity with Pikipedia in that pages are displayed in a smaller rectangular box, while the background is displayed in the columns on either side of the article space. In Pikmin Fanon's current state, the article area runs all the way to the edge of the browser. I wanted to make it more like Pikipedia in order for Pikmin Fanon to look better on higher resolution monitors, like, say an ultrawide monitor. Thanks in advance! <span style="border:solid 1px #888; border-radius:12px; background-color:#DDD;font-family:times;">Wraith [] 15:03, July 14, 2021 (EDT) </span>

:Hi there! I made a change so that similar to here, the right-side margin matches that of the left on wider displays. --Porplemontage ([]) 16:05, July 14, 2021 (EDT)

::Thanks for the help! Much appreciated. I might want to make some more aesthetic changes in the future, but I am not sure yet of what nature. <span style="border:solid 1px #888; border-radius:12px;background-color:#DDD;font-family:times;">Wraith []</span> 16:29, July 14, 2021 (EDT)
Anonymous edits
For the reasons I outlined at the old fanon wiki forum, I think anonymous users should be able to edit. <span style="font-family:times;"><span style="color:#080;">G</span>[]</span>

Just to clarify, the boards at forums.pikminwiki.com are for use by both wikis as the inter-wiki forum right? I want to make sure before I do anything to big on them.

:Yeah. So you could create separate sections or handle that however you want. --Porplemontage 23:03, 21 September 2010 (EDT)

::::Okay, just would've expected some warning you'd changed it. <span style="font-family:times;"><span style="color:#080;">G</span>[]</span>

Could you just replace it with EmbedVideo again?  I'm not sure why you changed it - EmbedVideo supports more sources and resizing.  Further, it's a parser function, so templates with variable inputs work, unlike with the YouTube extension. <span style="font-family:times;"><span style="color:#080;">G</span>[]</span>

I don't know if you've been following, but some vectorial images have been created for the hazard icons. Read this if you're interested. The problem is that some of them don't show up correctly. Greenpickle hinted that it has to do with the renderer chosen, and suggested that I talked to you about it. :Ok. An alternative to this is to a require a math problem to be solved by all guests (which is currently only required by guests adding new links). --Porplemontage 19:45, 17 January 2011 (EST)

Creating an account fails
Apparently the captcha's broken or something; the error message ('Incorrect or missing confirmation code.') definitely comes from the ConfirmEdit extension.  This is only displayed when it thinks you've failed the captcha, which I'm definitely not doing. <span style="font-family:times;"><span style="color:#080;">G</span>[]</span>

reuploads
I've been told they don't work (for non-admins?); could you enable them?  It should be the stuff here. <span style="font-family:times;"><span style="color:#080;">G</span>[]</span>

:Refer to Special:ListGroupRights. Normal users can reupload their own images but they need to be autoconfirmed to reupload other images. Autoconfirmed is 10 edits and 4 days, so RAP is basically 2 edits from gaining the right. --Porplemontage 03:52, 2 March 2011 (EST)

Javascript woes[edit]

— {EspyoT} 09:09, 6 November 2016 (EST)

Fixed it! --Porplemontage (talk) 11:48, 6 November 2016 (EST)
Looks like every script is working perfectly. Thank you so much! — {EspyoT} 12:02, 6 November 2016 (EST)

Question[edit]

Im curious what the first edit on this Wiki was. On what page was it? TabuuandPeach MarchShroomCertificateA.jpg 18:28, 24 November 2016 (EST)

Well, I guess this was the first non-bot edit. --Porplemontage (talk) 22:34, 24 November 2016 (EST)

Mobile captcha problems[edit]

Hey. A user found a problem while editing the wiki under mobile: link. Basically, when trying to save, the wiki asks for a "confirmation code" (captcha, I'm guessing?) but there's no such thing anywhere.

It doesn't look like this is anon-user triggered, since anonymous users can't even edit the wiki under mobile. That's also another thing – since under desktop, users can edit without an account, why can't they under mobile? If you could make anons able to edit under mobile, that'd be great, but if not, don't sweat it. I think it's more important to have the code problem solved. Me and Marty also tried to edit using smartphones, but we were never asked for such a code, so maybe this only applies to non-autoconfirmed users.

Oh, and a final thing. Do you mind if I send the older conversations here into an archive subpage? Your talk page is getting pretty heavy! — {EspyoT} 15:23, 27 December 2016 (EST)

Ok yeah, it looks like the captcha extension and mobile extension aren't playing well together. You're correct, autoconfirmed users would skip it, but now I've made it so all users skip it. We do need the captcha for anons though, so we can't enable mobile anon editing. Archive away! --Porplemontage (talk) 15:43, 27 December 2016 (EST)
Sounds good. Thanks a million! — {EspyoT} 17:18, 28 December 2016 (EST)

Parse error on Pikmin Fanon[edit]

Hey there Porple. Pikmin Fanon has been unavailable for over 24 hours because of a parse error, which reads:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ';', expecting ')' in /home/pikminfa/public_html/LocalSettings.php on line 384

I thought if I gave it time, it would go away on its own, but... Could you resolve this? Thanks. ~PikFan23 16:58, 29 January 2017 (EST)

Fixed it, thanks! --Porplemontage (talk) 16:59, 29 January 2017 (EST)

Unpatrollable uploads[edit]

Hey. If an image is uploaded, and then a new version is uploaded on top, it'll become impossible to mark the first revision as patrolled. You can find examples on the recent changes with the farthest filter. Do you think you can do something about this glitch so that it doesn't happen again? Thanks! — {EspyoT} 15:06, 14 February 2017 (EST)

This is a bug that would need to be fixed in MediaWiki core, where we'd get the fix in a future software update. I've reported it here - we'll see what happens! --Porplemontage (talk) 15:49, 14 February 2017 (EST)
Ah! Thought so. One thing though...right now, the recent changes are filled with edits about how this or that revision has been marked patrolled, and all edits also seem to have become unpatrolled now. What...exactly happened? — {EspyoT} 04:01, 15 February 2017 (EST)
Well, I rebuilt recent changes to see if those unpatrollable log entries would go away. Turned out it had some adverse effects - sorry! --Porplemontage (talk) 15:21, 15 February 2017 (EST)
Oops. Oh well, at least they look like they're working fine from here on out. Thanks! — {EspyoT} 03:57, 16 February 2017 (EST)
Hello! I see that you are an active admin. Could you tell me more about Pikipedia? While you read this, can I ask for my admin rights to change from user to admin? GoldenAxe (talk) 12:42, 13 February 2019 (EST)

Anything I need to know?[edit]

Greetings, Porplemontage. I am a Patroller of WiKirby. Currently, I am busy with multiple things there and elsewhere. However, in the near future, I may consider becoming more active around here. I'm familiar with editing wikis, but I know some wikis are quite different from each-other, regarding policies and such. That is why I've come to ask you if there is anything basic I need to know before I edit Pikipedia, and where the best place to get started is. -- MetaDragon (talk) 20:55, December 3, 2020 (EST)

Recent MediaWiki change[edit]

Shouldn't MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning only discuss specifically written content being released under (I beleive) CC-BY-SA 3.0U, as files and other media are generally uploaded with their own specific licensing? Trig - 22:06, February 1, 2021 (EST)

The CC-BY-SA license applies to written content, so the warning is shown below the edit box, where written content is added. It's not shown on the file upload page since those licenses are different. --Porplemontage (talk) 22:12, February 1, 2021 (EST)

Pikmin Fanon CSS[edit]

Hello Porple, I was wondering if you could help me making Pikmin Fanon's layout share a similarity with Pikipedia in that pages are displayed in a smaller rectangular box, while the background is displayed in the columns on either side of the article space. In Pikmin Fanon's current state, the article area runs all the way to the edge of the browser. I wanted to make it more like Pikipedia in order for Pikmin Fanon to look better on higher resolution monitors, like, say an ultrawide monitor. Thanks in advance! Wraith (Talk) 15:03, July 14, 2021 (EDT)

Hi there! I made a change so that similar to here, the right-side margin matches that of the left on wider displays. --Porplemontage (talk) 16:05, July 14, 2021 (EDT)
Thanks for the help! Much appreciated. I might want to make some more aesthetic changes in the future, but I am not sure yet of what nature. Wraith (Talk) 16:29, July 14, 2021 (EDT)
