What counts as an unintended way?[edit]

I like the idea for this article, but I'm not sure whether it would work as a Pikipedia article. The main issue is that it can sometimes be hard to define what counts as an unintended way to collect an item. In many cases it's clear, but there are some cases where it's not as clear. For example, in the Garden of Hope, to collect the Searing Acidshock in the crystal, you're supposed to build the orange bridge to access the plateau it's on, and some of the orange fragments are underwater and require Blue Pikmin to carry, but it's possible to half-build the bridge with the fragments that are not in the water, throw a leader across, and collect the fruit with Rock Pikmin and Winged Pikmin. Does this count as an unintended way to collect it? The other issue with this page is that a lot of this information is already documented on Pikmin type articles, which have lists of cases where an object is intended to be collected with a certain Pikmin type but can be collected by other types. Documenting this information here as well would be duplicating the information, which is not ideal since it means that any change in one location also has to be made in the other location. — Soprano(talk) 06:25, May 15, 2024 (EDT)

Yes, I like the idea too, but information could just be put on the pages about those things. Also, Soprano, I would consider that to be an unintended way of getting that fruit. Reminds me of how I like to build the bridge to the Shower Room's entrance with Blues instead of Yellows. ~ Contributions Cheepy (talk)  18:54, May 15, 2024 (EDT)
I don't think this page really works at all in concept. I think it's a lot easier to find any info that could be contained on this article by just going to the article about the item in question, rather than going to an article most people likely wouldn't even now exists due to a lack of linking possibility. -Gulliblepikmin 19:00, May 15, 2024 (EDT)

I think the main issue is that it pretty much can't be approached in a comprehensive, encyclopedic manner. There are practically endless ways to collect items "unintentionally", because Pikmin is a 3D game where you have full control. Relevant is this video released today: "How To Beat Pikmin Without Making Pikmin", where everything is collected in an unintentional manner. So how deep does the documentation go? Having to decide this means we'd have to omit some information sooner or later, which isn't great for an encyclopedia. So common methods can be discussed on glitch pages, and specific instances on relevant articles. Things which aren't noteworthy enough to be interesting or useful to most play probably don't need to be mentioned at all. Also, we don't document speedrunning routes and techniques, and we have only limited challenge run documentation (which imo should be reworked or removed eventually) for things like low-day runs. Challenge runs are also infinite - they're made up by players - so if a piece of information is only relevant to a Red Pikmin only run, it's probably not worth putting on the wiki, because otherwise with enough time the page would grow out of control. You could move this article to a user subpage, in the manner of User:Phineas81707/Pikmin4LowDayChallenges, if you want to keep documenting this stuff, but it's probably not the best for mainspace. It doesn't have to be deleted entirely; if you want to keep working on the page, it could be moved to a user subpage, like User:Mama09001/Alternate ways to collect items. Would you prefer that, or would you prefer it to be deleted? — Soprano(talk) 04:17, May 21, 2024 (EDT)
