I'm not sure of that. I know that I was able to leave my Pikmin out and go in a cave when I did my no-death run, but that was always right after they brought a treasure to the base. Does anyone know for sure? I can't test it at the moment.--Prezintenden

I just tried it, actually. Any Pikmin left idle when you enter a cave, no matter how far from the landing site they are, will return to their Onion safely. —Jimbo Jambo

Hang on, what? I thought the only place violet candypops disappeared was Emergence Cave. There are plenty of caves with violet candypops in them, and I visited those with a ship full of purples. —Jimbo Jambo

Then change it... ~CrystalRedpikminsprite.jpgLucario~ 11:20, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
I did, it was just re-added by Greenpickle. Pay attention, foo'. —Jimbo Jambo
I was going by what Miles claimed. I'll have to ask him.GP
[17:09] <Miles> 2 in Emergence Cave 2
[17:09] <Miles> 2 in Hole of Beasts 2
[17:09] <Miles> 1 in Frontier Cavern 1
[17:09] <Miles> 1 in Citadel of Spiders 2
[17:09] <Miles> 1 in Shower Room 2
[17:10] <Greenpickle> ?
[17:10] <Greenpickle> Those are ones that disappear?
[17:10] <Greenpickle> Wait, what?
[17:10] <Greenpickle> '1 in Citadel of Spiders 2 '
[17:10] <Greenpickle> ?
[17:11] <Miles> Unless I'm not remembering correctly, yes... >_>
[17:12] <Greenpickle> But...
[17:13] <Greenpickle> Why two numbers for each?
[17:13] <Greenpickle> oh, sublevel?
[17:13] <Miles> 1 candypop on Citadel of Spiders sublevel 2
[17:13] <Greenpickle> And the limit for all is 20, right?
[17:13] <Miles> Yes.
[17:14] <Miles> Also 20 for the WFG Ivory candypops...

Yay?GP

Okay, I've never noticed that. I think it's worth checking out.... Even still though, that's only five caves, which leaves six with candypops that don't disappear. —Jimbo Jambo
Never said there were more...GP
No, but the current text implies that a majority of violet candypops disappear. —Jimbo Jambo
And...? ~CrystalRedpikminsprite.jpgLucario~ 18:08, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
You're kidding, right?... Why is everyone trying to pull my leg today? —Jimbo Jambo
...I'm confusled... I didn't know Miles could talk... ~CrystalRedpikminsprite.jpgLucario~ 22:50, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
...Yeah, it gets you the first time. Also, JJ, 'trying'? 'Everyone'? 'Leg'?GP
Stop it! You're confusing me! I can't detect sarcasm within written text! —Jimbo Jambo
Neither can Prez. :P But seriously make it CLEAR what your telling us we DO NOT GET IT! ~CrystalRedpikminsprite.jpgLucario~ 11:44, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
This page implies something that simply isn't true. I'm amazed that you with your "OMG NO SPECUMALATION MUST BE 100% HARD FACT" attitude aren't tearing up the page by now. —Jimbo Jambo
You told me not to do that. And I'm so confused I couldn't even tell it was speculation... ~CrystalRedpikminsprite.jpgLucario~ 17:25, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
It's not speculation, but it's not fact either. In fact, it's completely wrong. I would have thought you would have something to say about that. —Jimbo Jambo
...What is?GP
...This entire conversation is about one single phrase which I pointed out in the first post up there. —Jimbo Jambo
So why is there the big Miles thing up there? Pointless. And I really only hate speculation, but non-factualness is annoying too... ~CrystalRedpikminsprite.jpgLucario~ 22:26, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Er, the Miles thing is to show he said JJ was wrong, which I thought would end the argument. You don't believe Miles?GP
I was wrong in thinking that Emergence Cave was the only place they disappeared in, but I'm still right in that the number of caves they do disappear in is a minority, which you all, far from disagreeing with, actually admitted. I'm kind of confused as to what everyone's reservations about editing the text are. —Jimbo Jambo
Firstly, I wouldn't consider 5 in 14 a minority. Secondly, it already says that only 'some' diappear; how would you change it?GP
Five is less than half of 14, which I'm sure you already know, making it a minority as opposed to a majority. Rather than listing caves in which candypops do not disappear, I think it should list caves in which they do disappear. If caves in which candypops disappear are the subject, then such caves should be used as the example. —Jimbo Jambo
Why not just make the changes? I'm still not sure why it matters, but...just...GP
I changed ShadowRaptor's revision, and you undid mine and rewrote it. I'm just making sure everything's fine with this.... —Jimbo Jambo
My head... ~CrystalRedpikminsprite.jpgLucario~ 22:43, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Images[edit]

I'm not sure, but this is a rather dumb idea of mine. Is it needed or possible to add images of each respective sublevel in a cave for each cave?

Like this, for example: Hole of Beasts

==Gallery==
Image:HoleofBeastsSublevel1.png|Sublevel 1
Image:HoleofBeastsSublevel2.png|Sublevel 2
Image:HoleofBeastsSublevel3.png|Sublevel 3

etc...

That's actually a pretty good idea. Maybe we could put the images in the section for each sublevel, though. Vol (Talk)
I'll try my best to get the textures used for each sublevel of each cave. Those make good maps, although traveling between levels in an emulator is tiresome. {EspyoT} 14:33, 27 December 2010 (EST)
I can't. It's too slow, and the textures aren't ripped correctly. There's got to be another way. Can't someone access the textures from the files? {EspyoT} 16:44, 27 December 2010 (EST)

When you say images, do you mean screenshots (overviews, like the two in the Dream Den walkthrough) or the maps Espyo's going on about?

Espyo: IIRC, they're models, not textures, and sublevels are made up of a number of 'rooms', each with their own model file. (Each sublevel has a number of associated sets of rooms, and one of these is chosen at random each time. So, it's going to be tricky and a bit pointless to try to map them, since most vary, and you wouldn't get a very good idea of the scenery/enemies/obstacles/items in them anyway. GP

I see. Well, in that case, using drawn maps would be better than ripping textures/models. {EspyoT} 10:41, 3 January 2011 (EST)
Well, I meant screenshots, since even though the sublevels change at random times, the objects are always the same. --FREAK ~GameGame Freak Logo.png Freak~OUT!
Mm, okay; I think they'd be better alongside the text for that sublevel rather than all separate in a gallery, though. I'm not sure of the need for an image for every single sublevel in the game, since some are boring or very similar to previous/next ones, but yeah, caves need more images. I may get around to a few in the next few days, but it's not long until I'm without Wii access for another 10 weeks. GP
So just random sublevels? Or notable ones? In said case, which could be considered as notable. Twinmold.pngSnakeboss14Twinmold.png
Well, just use common sense, I guess. Ones that are interesting, or hard to describe in words, or just very different. GP

Magnetic field[edit]

This is actually still in the manual; see pages 25 and 26 of the one Linked from Pikmin 2. GP 15:06, 17 November 2011 (EST)

Correct you are. Even better! I'll change it. {EspyoT} 17:53, 17 November 2011 (EST)

Pikmin 2 "last leader" variable[edit]

I'll write this here for safekeeping: the variable that controls what the last leader to enter a sublevel hole was is 0x00942A0C. — {EspyoT} 09:56, 7 May 2016 (EDT)

Dandori locations in Pikmin 4[edit]

So, after playing through Pikmin 4 and watching others do so on YouTube, I noticed that the locations of the various Dandori trials are not necessarily fixed. For example, right now, the page states that the "Dandori Daycare" and "Trial Run" challenge and battle are to be found in Sun-Speckled Terrace, which is where you would find them if you played and cleared each level in order. However, if you go to Blossoming Arcadia without having done the Dandori challenges in the previous level, and then go to the respective Dandori caves in Blossoming Arcadia, you'll encounter Dandori Daycare and Trial Run there instead. So, I believe that the Dandori Challenges will always be done in a particular order, regardless of where you access them, and that, with an exception or two, none of them are in fixed locations. That is my observation. --Fubaka (talk) 14:40, July 25, 2023 (EDT)

Pikmin 4 cave order[edit]

So, Pikmin 4 lists the caves in a specific order in its menus. We follow this order when listing caves on the wiki, with one exception: we put the Cavern for a King after The Mud Pit and the Subterranean Swarm, because it looks better for the "final" cave to be last in the order, even though the game actually lists it first in the area. But is this a good thing? Should we continue to list the Cavern for a King last, or should we list it as the first cave in the Primordial Thicket to be more accurate to the game? — Soprano(talk) 04:02, January 25, 2024 (EST)

Huh, I never noticed this when playing the game. I believe we should follow the same order the game does when listing regular caves, because the freedom to explore them in any order (bar the Burrow of Beginnings) makes any other order quite arbitrary.
