Watery Blowhogs typically wander around in a small area zone aimlessly, meaning they aren’t stationary but won’t move far from their territory. Once the Blowhog has detected a leader and/or Pikmin, it will turn to face them directly before spewing out a stream of [[water]]. Although the Watery Blowhog will turn and wait for the most opportune moment to attack, it needs to inhale first, creating a short delay in which it doesn’t turn allowing the attack to be avoided. As soon as the Blowhog starts to inhale, it will not turn or move until it has finished firing water. This means it does not follow the leader and/or Pikmin.
If the Blowhog is being attacked and is not currently inhaling or exhaling, it will buck itself forward, throwing off all Pikmin that were on it, and immediately begin to shoot a stream of water in front.

==Biology==
The Watery Blowhog’s physiology is quite mammalian, with the rubbery hide and elephant-resembling appearance. Additionally, the Blowhog also has striking resemblance to a hog, as seen by its name.
According to the notes from Olimar, the Watery Blowhog is a variant of the [[Fiery Blowhog]] which lacks necessary genes for creating fire, which is made from a phosphorus compound. So when the Watery Blowhog expels water, it actually  means to expel this compound, which instead comes out as a nonflammable liquid.
He also notes that the subspecies appears to have recently evolved and that the hereditary traits of the variant is dominant which is why the population is increasing rapidly.
Louie mentions in his notes that the Watery Blowhog is very moist, which could be a result of its watery mutation.

The Watery Blowhog (ミズブタ?, lit.: "Water Pig") is an enemy in Pikmin 2, Pikmin 3, and Pikmin 4. Watery Blowhogs are almost identical to Fiery Blowhogs, except that their snouts are colored blue. Instead of fire, they spit out a water-like liquid that gets stuck on the Pikmin's heads, excluding Blue Pikmin, Bulbmin and Glow Pikmin. Leaders will be pummeled to the ground if they are caught in the blast, making this one of the few times where leaders can be stunned by water. Purple Pikmin may work as well as long they are thrown (preferably on top of the Blowhog, so it gets stunned). Blowing the whistle in the area the water is spewed can also cancel out the attack almost instantly and save the Pikmin caught in the spray instantly.

Notes

Olimar's notes

A variant subspecies of the fiery blowhog, the watery blowhog lacks several of the dominant genes necessary for the production of fire-producing catalysts, and thus expels jets of the nonflammable liquid. This subspecies appears to have only recently evolved. However, the hereditary traits of this variant are dominant and highly robust, so its population is rapidly increasing.

Louie's notes

This beast's unrivaled moistness gives it a melt-in-the-mouth quality that's incomparable.

Alph's comments

Structural flaw: inhaling period
Weight: 5

Holding large amounts of water inside itself isn't as eyebrow raising as spewing fire, but I consider this to be the better design overall. Water is more easily and safely stored than flammable gas, and it has uses other than attacking. Despite this difference, it's vulnerable to the same trick: having the right type of Pikmin.

Brittany's comments

Alph tried to convince me this animal has all kinds of uses. "It could be a shower," he said, "or a spaceship wash, or an emergency fire control system." I told him we had all those things already, and it was like someone rained on his parade.

Charlie's comments

The water this one spews isn't too bad if you ask me, but the Pikmin don't do so well in it. (At least, most of them don't.) That's what a captain is there for: to be an umbrella to the downtrodden!

Pikmin 2 Nintendo Player's Guide[edit]

You can tell a Watery Blowhog by its blue snout. The beast spits water and causes non-blue Pikmin to be lost in bubbles. If you're traveling with a large Pikmin army, swarm the Watery Blowhog and be ready to save the bubble-bound soldiers with your whistle.

Pikmin 3 Prima Guide[edit]

A Watery Blowhog attacks by shooting water out of its snout. When battling one of these creatures, use your Blue Pikmin to attack the Watery Blowhog without any casualties. If your squad contains only a small amount of Blue Pikmin, use them to distract the Watery Blowhog, then flank the creature and have your more vulnerable Pikmin charge from the rear.

Feature #2: Same as the Fiery Blowhog

Biologically, it is the same creature as the Fiery Blowhog.

Biology[edit]

The Watery Blowhog’s physiology is quite mammalian, with the rubbery hide and elephant-resembling appearance. Additionally, the Blowhog also has striking resemblance to a hog, as seen by its name.

According to the notes from Olimar, the Watery Blowhog is a variant of the Fiery Blowhog which lacks necessary genes for creating fire, which is made from a phosphorus compound.

Strategy[edit]

See the strategy for defeating Fiery Blowhogs, but keep in mind that the creature spews water, not fire, and that Blue Pikmin are recommended, not Red Pikmin.

Naming[edit]

See also: Blowhog family#Naming.
  • Common name: Watery Blowhog. Like the Fiery Blowhog, this hog-like enemy blows out a hazard, but it is water instead of fire.
  • Japanese nickname: ミズブタ?, lit.: "Water Pig".
  • Japanese name: ヒフキブタドックリ(水吐変種)?, lit.: "Fire Breathing Pig Tokkuri (water spit variant)".
  • Scientific name: Sus loogiens. The word loogiens seems to be derived from the slang term "loogie", which is used to refer to sputum, a mix of phlegm and nasal mucus.
  • Internal names: Internally, this enemy is called wtank in Pikmin 2, which is the same internal name as the Fiery Blowhog, but starting with "w", for "water". In Pikmin 3, this enemy is recognized as being the same as the Fiery Blowhog, so it shares the internal name – tank. In Pikmin 4 its internal name was changed to WATERTANK.
  • Prerelease: The original English name for the Watery Blowhog was "Spitty Blowhog". This name can both be found on GameCube Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc Version 18[1], as well as an early English script left inside the final game.[2]

Trivia[edit]

  • By standing very close to a Watery Blowhog in Pikmin 2, it will rotate to face the leader, but will never actually attack. Instead, it will endlessly repeat its rotation animation. This happens with the Fiery Blowhog as well, and the Watery Blowhog near the entrance to the Subterranean Complex follows through this animation faster than normal.
  • The Prima Guide for Pikmin 3 and the Nintendo Player's Guide for Pikmin 2 state that the Watery Blowhog spits water. This contradicts the Piklopedia, which states that it shoots a flammable liquid, but is incapable of igniting it.
  • The only Watery Blowhog in Pikmin 3's story mode is located within the Formidable Oak. However, it might not be an actual Watery Blowhog because every enemy at the Formidable Oak turns into plasm when defeated, implying that it was created by the Plasm Wraith. This can also be applied to the Shearwig's appearance in Pikmin 3's story mode.
