He [[Smoky Progg]] is a hidden boss found only in the first [[Pikmin]] game, and is possibly one of the toughest. The only way to encounter it is to visit The [[Distant Spring]] by day 15. It resides in the large watery area located to the east of the landing site, in the center of a small group of islands. The Progg resides in an egg and if you touch the egg in any way, even with [[Olimar]], it will break out within 4-8 seconds. Swarming the unopened egg with a large number of Pikmin can easily defeat the Progg, but does not produce any reward.

The Progg itself is a dark green and black creature with glowing white eyes, and constantly emits a cloud of gas that is poisonous to both the Pikmin and Olimar. It is also able to uproot Pikmin sprouts. The Smoky Progg will make its way towards the landing site upon emerging, so it is necessary to kill it to avoid interference with the day's plans. It has an incredibly high defense, so it takes a while to kill. When killed, however, it drops a small nut which, if carried to an Onion, will produce 100 Pikmin seeds.

Breadbugs are one of the enemies the Pikmin games. It is a member and namesake of the Breadbug family. It is shaped more like a roll, however, than a loaf of bread. It does no harm to the Pikmin directly, though it can pull away small objects (in Pikmin 1), or both small and rather large (in Pikmin 2) objects vital to the Pikmin into its dwelling. If Pikmin are holding onto something when the Breadbug pulls it into its nest, they will die. It has a large amount of tough blubber, making it nearly immune to most attacks.

The most common way to kill it is to have Pikmin pull objects that the Breadbug attempts to take with them and take it to any Onion or the Ship's pod. The Onion or the Ship will get the object, but damage the Breadbug. This method usually has to be done twice, though the first hit is so strong, you may just need to throw a Pikmin on it to finish it off. Strangely, Olimar can damage the Breadbug by hitting it in Pikmin 1, but this has no effect in Pikmin 2.

Another easy way to kill the Breadbug is to drop Purple Pikmin on it. Their heavy weight will hurt the Breadbug, and they also try to home in as they land. If you are a little short on patience, petrifying it will also make it vulnerable to swarming.

Olimar's Notes:

The adult Breadbug competes for many of the same food sources as Pikmin, but its thick-skinned hide allows it to withstand most Pikmin group attacks. However, some researchers claim to have observed breadbugs being overwhelmed by massive numbers and reduced to food.

Louie's Notes:

Breadbugs are hearty and nutritious but also bland and unimaginative. They may be palatable in a pinch, but they hold no true culinary promise.

Olimar's belief that the creature is a malformed larval [[Mamuta]] is most likely based upon the fact that both creatures affect Pikmin on a different end of the same spectrum; the Mamuta plants the Pikmin, while the Progg uproots them and proceeds, then, to kill them. As the Mamuta doesn't feed on Pikmin, on the other hand, it is doubtful that its larval form would.
