In many articles, for example in the Smoky Progg article, there is perspective bias. What I mean by this is that in this part, "The Progg resides in an egg and if you touch the egg in any way, even with Olimar, it will break out within 4-8 seconds. When the egg breaks open the Progg will go directly to the landing site, ignoring you (sometimes if you are in the way it has been known to attack you and/or your Pikmin squad before it gets to the landing site) and possibly walking through your pikmin squad if not careful. Swarming the unopened egg with a large number of Pikmin can easily defeat the Progg, but does not produce any reward." The words "you" and "your" are used. I think that these should be replaced with "one", and "one's", to make it seem less like a conversation and more like an article. I would be willing to go through the articles and edit them to sound like how I mentioned, if you all think it is a good idea. IAMAHIPO_ocolor 20:32, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- The yous are all over the wiki. I say we change them all to "the player", just like in Mariowiki. Snakeboss14
- This is already a standard here, it's just people still use the 2nd person. The idea is to use anything but the 2nd person - so "one"/its other forms are okay, but of course that's a bit formal and archaic for a video-game wiki, especially to use multiple times in one article. To refer to Olimar/Louie/'a captain', or 'the player', is probably better; and I tend to use the passive a lot, probably a bit too much.GP
IMHO I think we should unify all the articles perspectivves with /Olimar/Louie/a captain. 'the player' dosen't sound... right. It would be better if all the articles used the same thing, whatever that one perspective may be. My reason for this is that when we talk about the creatures, we don't talk about them in context of a videogame, but in context as if "Pikmin" was a scinetific exploration. We use scientific reasoning, ect and I think it just sounds weird when we cut that in with "the player". Just my two cents. IAMAHIPO_ocolor 08:36, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- IIRC, that's what they do at Wikitroid, and for similar reasons. However, I think 'the player' is much better-suited for some pages, such as 2-player locations. Though, referring to the captains doesn't really makes it sound 'as if "Pikmin" was a scinetific exploration', but more like a story. I think, anyway, that if we do set strict rules regarding this, most people aren't going to notice them and are going to use their judgement anyway.
