Crystal Tunnels (すいしょうの どうくつ^?, lit.: "Crystal cave") is the first area in the Sparkling Labyrinth sector of Hey! Pikmin. It takes place mostly inside a cave filled with crystals. This is where Rock Pikmin are first found in the game, where they play an important role in destroying crystals in the way. After one of the final drops in the area, the player can break a crystal to the left to access the secret exit, and go to The Hollow Sky, or take the right path to the normal exit, which leads to the Echo Cavern. Crystal Tunnels is the second of the two areas available in the eShop demo.

Description

Right at the start, there are some dirt blocks that need to be destroyed using the Pikmin hiding in a nearby bush. After digging down, a very light puzzle element is shown, in the form of a pathway that can no longer be accessed if the player destroys too many of the sand blocks. After descending some more, the path splits into two ways. To the left is a small drop, with walls lined with crystals that can be slid off of. At the bottom is a room, with the only exit blocked off by a crystal. Then, in a cutscene, Rock Pikmin on the other side notice the trapped captain, and rush to take out the crystal in the way.

A Bouncy Mushroom is then used to go back up, even though the path is blocked by crystals that get destroyed as the Rock Pikmin bounce on the mushroom. Moving ahead, a Crystalline Crushblat is encountered. The road after that goes forward, but by destroying a crystal that serves as a ramp to get here, a different path can be taken into a hole.

On the other side of this hole is a room with Speargrubs and Bouncy Mushrooms. Rock Pikmin must be thrown at the mushrooms to break a crystal at the top, which allows some more Rock Pikmin to join the crew. Hitting the enemies that walk back and forth will make them stand in place.

Back in the main path, there are more crystals and dirt blocks, and after that, there is a treasure that can only be accessed if the ramp crystal is not destroyed, the Grown-Up Dynamo. Further ahead, there are more block puzzles and enemies, until the second treasure is found, the Attention-Getting Logo.

Further ahead, there are some more Speargrubs that stand between a ledge where Olimar and the Pikmin end up at, and a ledge with the final treasure, the Snack Vault. After some more crystals and enemies, the player comes across a split in the path. If they take the left, there's the pod waiting for Olimar, but if the player takes the right, they can go through a path with more Sparklium, until they reach the pod in a different location. If the player takes the left exit, they will be brought to The Hollow Sky.

Two Rock Pikmin poke out from either side, step back into the doorway, and start jumping into the crystal. Eventually, it shatters. The Pikmin step out and move aside, and then Olimar and the rest of the crew exit the doorway together.

Guide

From the start of the area head to the right until encountering the first group of Red Pikmin hiding in a bush above some dirt blocks. Call the group and begin breaking the rows of blocks until the last row. Before breaking down the last row of dirt blocks head to the right to collect some Sparklium Seeds along the path. After collecting the Sparklium Seeds head back to the left and destroy the last row of dirt blocks and attack the Crumbug before breaking one last dirt block in order to fall into an intersection. Head to the left by breaking the dirt block in the way and fall down a set of crystals in order to enter a small area with crystals blocking the way out. Upon moving to the right the Rock Pikmin cutscene plays, causing the crystal to be destroyed opening the path forward. Head forward until encountering a Bouncy Mushroom path blocked by several crystals. Break down the crystal blocking the path forward whith the newly acquired Rock Pikmin and head up the Bouncy Mushroom path while the Rock Pikmin automatically break the crystals blocking the path upward to the first intersection. Head to the right and encounter a Crystalline Crushblat alongside some crystals blocking the path forward. Take out the Crystalline Crushblat and destroy the crystals along the path until encountering a crystal slope. Break the crystal and head down the doorway at the end of the path.

Upon entering the doorway at the end of the path is a room with Bouncy Mushrooms, Speargrubs, and a group of Rock Pikmin hiding behind a rock blocked by a crystal. In order to allow the hiding group to join the main group throw some Rock Pikmin at the Bouncy Mushrooms in order to reach and break the crystal allowing the hiding group to fall from their hiding place and joining the main group. After collecting the four Rock Pikmin head back through the doorway into the main part f the area.

Upon reentering the main area head to the right until encountering a large group of small dirt blocks with some Rock Pikmn and Sparklium Seeds within it. Break the blocks in order to collect the Rock Pikmin and Sparklium Seeds before encountering some more crystals. Break down the crystal and head forward until encountering another bush with Rock Pikmin hiding within. Call the group and head up the crystal slope in order to reach the Grown-Up Dynamo. After collecting the treasure head back and destroy the crystal slope and head down to an area containing Crumbugs and another Crystalline Crushblat. After taking out the enemies head to the right while destroying the crystals and dirt blocks along the path before encountering a vine. Head up the vine in order to reach an area with the Attention-Getting Logo blocked by several dirt blocks. Make sure to use Red Pikmin in order to use some of the dirt blocks as a staircase to reach the treasure. After collecting the treasure head back down until the vine and head to the right while breaking down dirt blocks and crystals before entering an area with a few Speargrubs along an intersection. Head to the right and break a crystal before encountering a doorway.

Upon entering the room contains a few Speargrubs along the path of the Snack Vault. Reaching it requires climbing up the nearby vine and using the jetpack in order to cross the gap while avoiding the Speargrubs and collect the treasure. After collecting the treasure head back down to the doorway into the main area.

Upon reentering the main area head to the left until encountering the vine heading down. After climbing down the vine break the crystal underneath and slide down to the last major intersection of the area. From here either head to the left and break down some crystals where the secret exit is or head to the right with another large group of dirt blocks containing the last group of Rock Pikmin alongside some Sparklium Seeds. After collecting the Sparklium Seeds and Rock Pikmin continue right until encountering another crystal path with a Bouncy Mushroom. Break the crystal locking the path and head up while the Rock Pikmin automatically break the crystals and head to the right in order to reach the mai nexit.
