Re-release of Pikmin
Pikmin 2

Pikmin 1+2 is a bundle of Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2, the Nintendo Switch ports of the original Pikmin and Pikmin 2. This bundle was released digitally on June 21st, 2023, for a cheaper price than buying both ports separately.[1] A physical version was released in North America, Europe, and Japan on September 22nd, 2023.

When the bundle is purchased, the 2 games have separate icons on the Nintendo Switch Home Menu, and function as separate pieces of software.

Common changes[edit]

Both games have received their own changes compared to the previous versions, listed in the respective game's article. The following is a list of changes that were equally made to both games.

General[edit]

Controls[edit]

  • The games use an updated control scheme similar to that of more recent games, such as Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Pikmin 4.
    • the Right Stick on the Switch (dual Joy-Con) is now used to freely control the camera. In order to swarm, the player must hold down the L Button on the Switch while tilting the Right Stick on the Switch (dual Joy-Con).
    • Left Stick click on the Switch (dual Joy-Con) now resets the cursor.
    • Right Stick click on the Switch (dual Joy-Con) makes the leader lie down, in favor of each game's original way of lying down.
  • The motion controls have been altered, and are very different from the scheme used in the New Play Control! games, rather using almost the same scheme from Pikmin 4. The only differences between the two are that in Pikmin 4, the cursor resets to the previous position when done with motion controls, while Pikmin 1+2 keeps the cursor in place, and in Pikmin 4, the motion controls doesn't activate when punching while Pikmin 1+2 does.
    • With the controls enabled, tilting the controller while holding the A Button on the Switch or the B Button on the Switch will move the cursor.
    • The Pikmin are controlled with the stick, rather than the cursor like in the Wii version.
  • Pressing the A Button on the Switch repeatedly for continued plucking is no longer required. Simply holding the button while plucking will have leaders continue until the button is released or no more sprouts are left.
  • While the player is holding the A Button on the Switch to hold a Pikmin, they can now press the B Button on the Switch to release the Pikmin.
  • Holding the Y Button on the Switch on the Onion menu now allows the player to change the numbers by 10 Pikmin at a time, like in Pikmin 4.

Aesthetic[edit]

  • The gameplay and UI elements are now rendered at a higher resolution.
    • Pre-rendered cutscenes appear to have been re-rendered and then AI upscaled.[2][3]
  • The Nintendo logo lasts longer.
  • The number of Pikmin currently holding onto an object is now on the top half of the carry number, like to all Pikmin games with carry numbers since Pikmin 3.
  • All references to the controls have been updated to reflect the new control scheme.

Other[edit]

  • The copyright on the title screens has been changed to "© Nintendo".
  • Attraction mode has been completely removed. When attraction mode should play, the title screen is just reloaded.
  • Despite being based off of the New Play Control! versions, the GameCube cursor is reused. The trail from the New Play Control! versions' cursor was left unchanged, meaning that it no longer connects to the cursor.

Other information[edit]

  • Game size: 2.13 GB.
  • Supported play modes: TV (1 or 2 players), tabletop (1 or 2 players), and handheld (1 player).
  • Supported controllers: two Joy-Cons, and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
  • Supports cloud save data.
