A guy who wants to make Pikmin 4 99% Pikminless. Unfortunately, he still has to play the previous three mainline games. :(

Minimum Pikmin Use Run (Pikmin 4)

A minimum Pikmin use run, also can be referred to as an Oatchi Only run in Pikmin 4 is a play style that revolves on completing the game with the fewest Pikmin. Due to the inclusion of Oatchi, many tasks can be accomplished without Pikmin.

The General Run

The main goal of the run is to complete the main story (optionally including Cure Oatchi story, Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, or just one of them) or complete as much of the game as possible for 100%. Throughout the run, no Pikmin can be used unless they are needed to pass an obstacle or collect an object. Because of this, Oatchi cannot take care of some obstacles by himself. Despite this, not many of these obstacles appear in terms of progressing through the story.

Pikmin Uses

These are instances that define a Pikmin use.

General

- Interacting with/Throwing them at objects they can lock on to: This allows them to interact with the environment and accomplish tasks. Treasures, enemies, and obstacles are primary examples. This means any uses of the Red Pikmin, Yellow Pikmin, Blue Pikmin, Ice Pikmin, Rock Pikmin, Winged Pikmin, Purple Pikmin, White Pikmin, and Glow Pikmin will count as a Pikmin use.

Required

- Growing, converting or getting new Pikmin: There are a few treasures that cannot be collected with just Oatchi, so Pikmin must used or grown. It is advised that these Pikmin should only be used for Pikmin required tasks.

Gray Area-Required

- Dandori Challenges, Dandori Battles, and Trial of the Sage Leaf Pikmin: The Pikmin used in these areas cannot be kept by the player and their deaths do not count to the final results.

Gray Area

- Glow Pikmin: The aforementioned Glow Pikmin is a special type of Pikmin when it isn't used. This type of Pikmin cannot be disbanded, which means tasks in night expeditions and caves must be done carefully and quickly. A Glow Pikmin's maturity blooms faster than other Pikmin types which will count to the "Set the World Abloom" mission. At the end of each night expedition, the player is given a Glow Seed for every five Glow Pikmin. Earning these items will count to the "Friend to All Pikmin" mission. Some things to note are Glow Pikmin deaths are not counted to the final results, and according to this game's Piklopedia, classifies these Pikmin not entirely Pikmin.

Not Pikmin Uses

These are instances of not using Pikmin with some minor details worth mentioning but not that they necessarily cancel it off as not a Pikmin use.

Minor

- Wild Pikmin deaths: These Pikmin do not count as deaths according to Pikmin stats and History and stats. However, it will count as Pikmin casualties in the Piklopedia.

- Using Pikmin and then the Rewind Time feature: As long as the player rewinds back to the point before a Pikmin use affected their progress, then it will no long count as a Pikmin use. An instance of a gray area for this action would be collecting all three of the playing cards in order to unlock the bunker using Pikmin and rewinding time back.

Minor-General

- Disbanding or throwing Pikmin at nothing: These will require doing Pikmin actions, but if used correctly, they will not affect game progress. Disbanding Pikmin will allow them to stay put in one spot away from the player character or Oatchi. This will not work with Glow Pikmin and disbanding the other types near an object they can interact with will cause them to perform that task, so be careful. Throwing Pikmin at objects is not allowed, but if there is nothing for them to interact with, it will not count as a Pikmin use.

General

- Piklopedia Pikmin: These Pikmin are only used as practice to fight enemies of test their uses. Killing them or using them will not affect game stats or progress.
