Latest revision as of 15:33, March 26, 2024
This page lists all official descriptions of different Pikmin types from media outside of the games themselves (at least all the ones I can find).
Non-English translations will have my best attempt to translate them using Google Translate, fixing anything that doesn't make sense. Some more accurate translations would be greatly appreciated!
TODO: Find out if the original Pikmin and Pikmin 2 websites have any information, see if Nintendo Power #280 has profiles, and see what the Prima guides for Pikmin and New Play Control! Pikmin say.

Nintendo Magazine Winter 2023 issue
Oddities
- Nintendo Official Magazine UK issue 112 claims that Red Pikmin "grow stronger in sunlight," which is not a mechanic in any of the games.
- Nintendo Power issue 183 mistakenly refers to Blue Pikmin as "blues Pikmin". Coincidentally, Pikmin also referrs to Blue Pikmin as "blues Pikmin" in the Onion menu.
- The French description of Red Pikmin in the New Play Control! Pikmin instruction manual claims that Red Pikmin are "resistant," but not to what. It possibly is a continuation of the first part (which mentions that they're not afraid of fire), but in that case it doesn't mention their increased attack power.
- Many descriptions of Yellow Pikmin say you can throw them farther than other types, which is untrue, except in the Super Smash Bros. games.
- The Smash Bros. DOJO!! description of Yellow Pikmin says that they "travel in slight arcs" when thrown, which all Pikmin do when thrown. It most likely meant that they can be thrown farther.
- The US Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U Yellow Pikmin trophy description is unsure whether or not the growths on Yellow Pikmin's heads are ears, when they have been explicitly referred to as ears (or at least ear-like) in most other official media.
- The Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U tips concerning Yellow Pikmin claims that they do less damage than other types of Pikmin, which is untrue; they deal the same amount of damage as Blue Pikmin, and White Pikmin deal even less damage than them.
- Nintendo Acción issue 119 claims that Blue Pikmin are the "rarest" type of Pikmin in the first game, which makes no sense, since they can be freely grown like the other Pikmin types.
- Smash Bros. DOJO!! claims that Blue Pikmin are stronger when thrown. This is incorrect; they're actually the strongest when used to throw opponents, not when the Pikmin itself is thrown. This also applies to their trophy description in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U.
- The Pikmin 3 Prima guide claims that Blue Pikmin don't have any unique weaknesses, when they have a lower digging speed than other types. It also doesn't mention their swimming ability.
- The Play Nintendo descriptions of Blue Pikmin claim that they are the "only type" of Pikmin that can survive in water, which is untrue; Bulbmin, Ice Pikmin (under certain circumstances), and Glow Pikmin can all survive in water.
- Many descriptions mention that Purple Pikmin are "ten times the strength" of other Pikmin when referring to their attack power. This is untrue; they are only 1.5 as strong as other types in terms of attack power, which is the same as Red Pikmin (except in Pikmin 2, where they are instead twice as powerful as other types).
- The Super Smash Bros. Brawl trophy for Purple Pikmin implies that Purple Pikmin can kill some enemies by landing on them that other Pikmin types cannot. This is untrue; any enemy that can be instantly killed by throwing a Purple Pikmin onto them can be killed by any other type of Pikmin being thrown on top of them.
- The Pikmin 3 Prima guide claims that Purple Pikmin only have reduced movement speed while carrying objects, instead of reduced movement speed in general. It also doesn't mention the fact that they can't be thrown as far.
- The Pikmin 3 Prima guide doesn't mention that White Pikmin have lower attack power and digging speed as weaknesses.
- Nintendo Acción issue 146 says that Bulbmin are immune to poison and water, but doesn't mention their immunity to fire or electricity.
- The Pikmin 3 Prima guide doesn't mention Rock Pikmin's immunity to being stabbed and increased digging speed as strengths.
- The Pikmin 3 Deluxe "Get to know the Pikmin" video on Rock Pikmin calls Rock Pikmin the "heaviest Pikmin", despite the fact that this is typically used to refer to Purple Pikmin.
- The Pikmin 3 Prima guide doesn't mention Winged Pikmin's low digging speed as a weakness.
- The Pikmin 4 European website says that Winged Pikmin can be used to "lift obstacles". However, the only obstacles they're able to lift—bamboo gates—don't appear in Pikmin 4. While clipboards do appear in the game, they function differently (being lowered instead of raised) and don't require Winged Pikmin.
- The Play Nintendo description for Ice Pikmin says that they can freeze bodies of water "(...)letting you and other Pikmin to safely cross." The "to" shouldn't exist in that sentence.
