Glow sap is a nectar-like substance in Pikmin 4 that is generated by Lumiknolls. All Lumiknolls at the end of a night expedition will produce one glow sap each. Yonny can synthesize glow sap into medicine that can be used to cure Leaflings, at a rate of one glow sap per cure.
Glow sap can be consumed raw, although it can have negative side effects. Even raw, it still acts as a preventative against Leafling conversion, as shown by the three Koppaites, who are explicitly shown to be immune to conversion even when directly deposited into an Onion; Yonny suggests that so long as glow sap is present within the system, it wilts and destroys leaves before they can sprout, effectively preventing the transformation.
Lumiknolls that have already produced glow sap in a past night expedition will not produce more glow sap if the expedition is repeated, leaving glow sap as a finite resource. There is exactly enough glow sap available to cure every Leafling after completing every night expedition.
Trivia
- The medicine is created by combining glow sap with DNA from a "non-leafified" individual. The DNA must be from the same relative species as the Leafling to be cured; while DNA from the Rescue Corps is enough to cure all humanoid Leaflings, it fails to cure an infected Oatchi until the glow sap is mixed with viable cell samples from another, non-leafified space-dog. It also notably has zero effect on Moss, likely because she was born as a Leafling and thus technically has nothing to cure.
- Louie describes the taste of glow sap as "yummy," and notes that he feels "warm and fuzzy" after ingesting it. The Koppaites (Yorke, Nelle and Don Bergman) also seem to enjoy the sap, using it in lieu of juice to survive on PNF-404. Dingo, however, becomes sick with a high temperature when consuming it. Yonny suggests that the reaction to glow sap differs when ingested from person to person.
- Glow sap is known to dramatically affect the reproduction of Mamutas. Olimar's notes on the Smoky Progg suggest that a Mamuta absorbing glow sap prior to laying an egg causes the egg yolk to mutate into a Smoky Progg.
