Panic in the Pikmin series refers to any non-hazard event that causes Pikmin to scatter and thrash around in random directions. In a panic scenario, Pikmin are not in danger of dying, but something has scared or affected them to the point where they give up following a leader. Panic scenarios occur in Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 3, and in both games a panicking Pikmin can be returned to normal by whistling it.
Pikmin 2
In Pikmin 2, Pikmin in a panic will never stop until they are whistled. There are several scenarios that prompt specific Pikmin to panic:
- A group of Mitites will cause all but Purple Pikmin to panic. It is unknown what causes Pikmin to react to Mitites this way.
- An Emperor Bulblax's roar will cause Pikmin to panic.
- Pikmin under the influence of an Antenna Beetle will panic if the Antenna Beetle is killed.
- Bulbmin will panic after the mature Bulbmin is killed.
Pikmin 3
In Pikmin 3, panic scenarios visually effect Pikmin, and though they spread out in random directions, they will eventually stop panicking of their own accord.
- The Vehemoth Phosbat can spray a cloud of dust that causes Pikmin to panic, clouded in dust.
- Toady Bloysters and Sputtlefish can spray ink when Pikmin are attacking, cloaking the affected Pikmin in ink and causing them to panic.
