Nintendo is a video-game company that was founded in September 1889 as a manufacturer of a card game called Hanfuda. One of Nintendo's current products is the Pikmin series of games, which number two GameCube games along with their New Play Control! releases, and a third (Pikmin 3) on the way. These games are played on Nintendo consoles, the Wii and GameCube. Other popular Nintendo franchises include Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, Kirby, F-Zero and Pokémon.

The first game, Pikmin, was released in 2001 in North America and Japan, and in 2002 in Europe. The sequel to Pikmin, Pikmin 2, was released in 2004. The New Play Control! version of Pikmin was released in 2008 in Japan and 2009 everywhere else. New Play Control!
