The '''Withering Blowhog''' ({{j|アオケダタラ|Aokedatara|Aoke Bellows}}) is an [[enemy]] in {{p2}} and {{p4}}. Withering Blowhogs are a smaller variation of the [[Puffy Blowhog]], and have orange-red skin with yellow spots that seem to form a flame design and a white underside. They also seem to have four whisker-like appendages under their snouts that are white in color. When [[Pikmin family|Pikmin]] are nearby, they unleash gusts of air (or orange gas in ''Pikmin 4'') which will cause the Pikmin's flowers to instantly [[Maturity|wilt]]. In ''Pikmin 2'', a Withering Blowhog's wind can reach Pikmin behind gates or thin walls, which makes destroying a gate guarded by one an incredibly frustrating task. To attack one, several Pikmin must be [[throw]]n onto its body, or at least one [[Purple Pikmin]]. The weight will ground the Blowhog for a few seconds, leaving them near helpless. They have less vitality than Puffy Blowhogs, but several attacks may still be needed depending on how many Pikmin are on hand. In ''Pikmin 4'', they can also wilt [[sprout]]s, and can rapidly escape after shaking off Pikmin by blowing a burst of gas, flying off and reappearing a short distance away.

In ''Pikmin 4'', they will try to fly away and not attempt to blow if the Pikmin squad being targeted is under the effects of the [[ultra-spicy spray]], as powered-up Pikmin can't be withered as long as the effect lasts. This can also happen if the player's Pikmin squad have no flower Pikmin.

Throw Pikmin (preferably [[Purple Pikmin]]) at it, taking care to avoid the nasal blast, as the loss of flower Pikmin can be frustrating. Purple Pikmin cannot be knocked around by its air blasts, making them ideal candidates for fighting one, although they will still be wilted if hit.

 

If it does successfully wilt any Pikmin, it will stop and giggle. Use this opportunity to counterattack.

Despite appearances, a Leader ''can'' hurt a Withering Blowhog exclusively in {{p2}}; the third hit from the [[Rocket Fist]] combo can hit if performed directly underneath it, although it would take a very long time to kill it exclusively with punches.

 

In {{p4}}, if [[Oatchi]]'s [[Oatchi#Big_Chomp|Big Chomp]] skill has been learned, enabling him to bite in midair, he becomes an ideal candidate for attacking one, as the Withering Blowhog obviously cannot wilt him, although note that it may shove him around with air blasts unless the [[Gear#Brace_Boots|Brace Boots]] have been purchased.

|common    = Withering Blowhog. This [[Blowhog family|blowhog]]'s main ability is to wither away Pikmin's flowers and buds, hence the name.

|jpcommon  = {{j|アオケダタラ|Aokedatara}}. The name includes the word {{j|たたら|tatara|{{w|Tatara (furnace)|Tatara}}|f=tp}}, which refers to a type of furnace known for its large bellows. This refers both to the creature's strong breath and flame pattern. The first half of the name, {{j|アオケ|aoke}}, doesn't have any applicable meanings and was likely made for the sound of the word rather than meaning.

|internal  = Internally, it is known as <code>hanachirashi</code>, where <code>hana</code> is {{j|<ruby>花<rt>はな</rt></ruby>|hana|flower|f=tp}}, and <code>chirashi</code> is {{j|<ruby>散<rt>ち</rt></ruby>らし|chirashi}}, which means "to scatter" or "to disperse". This name could have been decided due to the fact that when a Pikmin's flower is blown off, its petals scatter everywhere.
