As with most Dweevils, Venom Dweevils will attempt to pick up and carry nearby treasures, corpses, and Castaways; it is often necessary to defeat them in order to obtain certain [[treasure]]s, or to prevent them from interrupting transit. If left alone after it picks up something, it will hide under it, only moving when Pikmin or a Leader approach. On top of being able to carry these items, Venom Dweevils (and all other Dweevils) can actually carry any object that is directly carryable by Pikmin, notably useable items from the [[Pack]], can be carried by the Dweevil. This even includes Firestarters, although this can only be seen with [[Fiery Dweevil]]s in [[Giant's Hearth]] ingame. Items that can explode, like [[Bomb rock]]s or [[Ice Blast]]s can be used by the Dweevil when it has a target in its sights, replicating the ability of the [[Volatile Dweevil]] from ''Pikmin 2''. It should be noted that Dweevils are not immune to the effects of these bombs, and will immediately die or become [[ice|frozen]] as a result of the blast. This can be directly observed ingame in the [[Engulfed Castle]], where Venom Dweevils spawn holding Bomb Rocks.

They are largely passive to Pikmin, and will attempt to run away from them, only attacking in self-defense. If provoked by attacks, they will defend themselves by emitting a cloud of toxic gas. This gas will poison any non-[[White Pikmin]] and will additionally poison Oatchi if he does not have his {{oatchi|Sniff Saver}} upgrade, requiring the player to [[whistle]] to save them.

[[White Pikmin]] and [[Glow Pikmin]] are completely immune to the Venom Dweevil's attacks, making them the most obvious choice to fight one. However, given the relative rarity of these types throughout much of the game, as well as the noticeably lower attack power of White Pikmin, it may instead be a better idea to charge the Dweevil with a group of [[Ice Pikmin]], to freeze and shatter it before it can react.

 

Your [[Pikmin 4 player character|player character]] is completely immune to poison even without upgrades, meaning that they can safely punch the Dweevil to death with no risk to themselves, although it will likely take a while without the [[Triple Threat]] upgrade.

 

Oatchi is not innately immune to poison without his {{oatchi|Sniff Saver}} upgrade, but the Dweevil itself is frail enough that Oatchi can likely kill it before it can attack him, especially if his [[Oatchi#Chomp|Chomp]] skill has been trained. If his [[Oatchi#Rush|Rush]] skill has been sufficiently upgraded, a direct hit will instantly kill the Dweevil as well.

* The Venom Dweevil is practically identical to the [[Munge Dweevil]] from {{p2}}, only differing in color and having noticeably less health. This is humorously referenced in [[Dalmo]]'s notes for the creature, where he notes that there "once was a purple one as well, but this year's trendy color is green."
