I think the hidden floor setting has something to do with the solid ground of the toybox and garden themes. :Hmm, good theory. One can see that the garden and toybox units are all just walls and such, with no ground. So maybe this option tells the game to pretend there's a ground, or to alternately, use the ground from the skybox/vrbox/background.
