| It means "stone foot." It seems kind of silly to abbreviate "arthropod" as "pod" when pod already has its own meaning. Furthermore I'm 99% certain they were intended to be insects and not just that they resemble insects, so it would be weird to use arthropod in their family name because of a resemblance to...themselves.
