I noticed that, on January 1st (assuming Day 1 occurred on January 1st), there were 3 cups of juice in Pikmin3.

:You mean at the night of the first day? Those are the provisions that the Koppaites came with. They initially launched with 7 bottles, but 4 of them got lost. These 3 come from Koppai, and exist to help the player get into the game's world without having to rush for food right on the first day.
