Super Smash Bros. is a series of fighting video games published by Nintendo. The settings, fighters, items, and other elements are taken from various Nintendo franchises. The Pikmin series is included in these franchises, starting in Super Smash Bros. Melee with two trophies and advancing to a major role in Super Smash Bros. Brawl onward, in which a Pikmin character – Captain Olimar – and areas are part of the available fighter and stage selections, respectively.

Games[edit]

Super Smash Bros.[edit]

The first game in the series was released for the Nintendo 64, and features twelve playable characters and nine stages. As Pikmin did not exist at the time of the game's release, it features no Pikmin-related content.

Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]

This game features a much larger roster, with 26 characters and 29 stages. Some months before the release of Super Smash Bros. Melee, Pikmin was released for the same console, the GameCube. There were no plans to include Pikmin franchise elements into the core gameplay, but the series still made its way into the game in the form of two collectible trophies; one for Captain Olimar, and one for the Pikmin. The former is only unlocked if the player has a Pikmin saved game on their memory card, while the latter must be won through the game's trophy lottery feature.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released for the Wii, and features 36 fighters, two of which are third-party. This game also marks the addition of Captain Olimar as a fighter to the series. Alongside the five types of Pikmin in Pikmin 2, Olimar combats using his Pikmin as weapons, either melee or ranged. Many trophies that are based off characters and objects of the Pikmin franchise are included, and a stage named Distant Planet based on the Awakening Wood is also available.

Olimar also received four alternate costumes that replace his model with that of Alph. Distant Planet also returns as a stage on the 3DS version, and there are new trophies available.

Captain Charlie is featured in World of Light as one of the Master Spirits. He runs a side-activity that allows the player to send up to four Spirits off on a "research expedition" to recover helpful items.
