The '''Skutterchuck''' ({{j|エボシトバシ|Eboshi Tobashi|Eboshi Launcher}}) is an insect-like [[Enemy|enemy]] first encountered in {{p3}}, and found again in {{p4}} and {{hp}}. The creature has a black wafer-like body with an orange underside. It has a habit of picking up certain objects (like [[crystal nodules]] and [[Pikmin family|Pikmin]]), similar to [[Dweevil]]s. It uses its odd shape to scoop them up and carry them around, and also for throwing its load at an approaching enemy.

In ''Hey! Pikmin'', it is slightly smaller and is brown. It simply walks forward, and when it passes through [[Crystal#Crystal nest|certain crystal]]s, it will pick up a crystal nodule if it's not holding one already. It can also now crawl under and on the sides of platforms, as well as above. Because they can crawl on the ceiling, they drop their crystals rather than throwing them when the player or their Pikmin are nearby.

==Behavior==
The Skutterchuck is mainly passive, but when a [[leader]] or group of Pikmin gets close, it will try to attack. It attacks by picking up and throwing crystal nodules at its targets. It will also use its crystals as cover when being attacked, with the only Pikmin type that can break through being [[Rock Pikmin]]. When not attacking, Skutterchucks wander around in a small area, searching for nearby crystal nodules and picking them up if they have none, or fold in their thin legs and lie dormant on the ground with their crystal as protection and camouflage.

If a Skutterchuck has no crystals to pick up, it will pick up and throw Pikmin into the air instead. If a Rock Pikmin is thrown at it and breaks its crystal, the Skutterchuck will quickly scurry away.

In {{p4}}, they may also pick up and throw [[bomb rocks]] should there be any on the ground.

==Locations==

===Pikmin 3===

Two Skutterchucks are found in the area containing the [[Bridge|orange bridge pieces]] in the [[Garden of Hope]], east of the [[S.S. Drake]]. These two Skutterchucks despawn after the [[Louie|Food Thief]] has been collected

Two Skutterchucks are also found in [[Tropical Wilds]], north-west of the S.S. Drake. They are found in the path next to the [[Shaggy Long Legs]] arenas.

Finally for the maingame two Skutterchucks are found in [[Formidable Oak]] next to a [[Nectarous Dandelfly]]. They are in the furthest south area in the first room inside the Oak, blocked off by [[Dirt wall|dirt walls]] at both enterances.
====Collect Treasures!====

In [[Tropical Forest]], a single Skutterchuck appears in front of the [[crystal wall]], south of the player's starting point, in-between the [[Face Wrinkler]] and orange bridge pieces.

In [[Shaded Garden]], all three Skutterchucks are found in the north west section of the map. One appears behind a crystal wall. Two more appear in this section both in front of a large crystal.

In [[The Rustyard]], a pair of Skutterchucks can be found in the south-west corner of the map on the side with Yellow Pikmin in the dark soil area.

Another pair appears in [[Clockwork Chasm]] on the platform with the [[Gold Nugget|nuggets]] and bridge pieces, north-west if the base. You can build said bridge to easily transport their corpses.

====Battle Enemies!====

A trio of Skutterchucks appear in [[Twilight Hollow]] directly behind the crystal wall closing Alph in with the Rock Onion.

In [[Twilight River Remix]] two appear directly west of where you spawn in. They guard the Winged Onion

In [[Fortress of Festivity]], one appears behind a crystal wall next to a [[Burgeoning Spiderwort]] in a small square. It is east of the Master Onion or behind the player when they spawn.

In [[The Rustyard]] two pairs of two can be found. One pair south behind the Blue Onion, and another in the north-west corner easily accessible from the Rock Onion.

In [[Clockwork Chasm]], a lone Skutterchuck can be found north of the Master Onion, next to a large crystal holding a drop of [[Ultra-spicy spray]].

====Side Stories====

In the first level of Olimar's Assignment, [[Flower Garden]], two Skutterchucks are found in the same place as story mode, east of the base across the water. But this time one of them holds a [[Sunseed Berry]].

Now in Olimar's Comeback, two appear in [[Team Monster Hunt]], guarding the Rock Onion which is directly in front of Louie when the mission starts.

Another pair of Skutterchucks appear in [[Channel Gone Dry]], next to a Whiptongue Bulborb in the westward section of the map int the area where the clipboards are in story mode.

In [[Looking for Louie]], two Skutterchucks appear after Louie's first concrete wall, in front of another concrete wall. They're next to a [[Swooping Snitchbug]].

In [[Another Part Found]], two Skutterchucks are found with a [[Spotty Bulbear]] in the chamber where the Bulborbs are found in story mode.

====Bingo Battle====

In [[Stagnant Sea]] layout B two Skutterchucks are found across the bridges on the corners of the south island, one on each corner.

In [[Twisted Cavern]] layout A, four Skutterchucks are found in the south section of the map.

===Pikmin 4===

====Story Mode====

Six Skutterchucks are found above ground in [[Hero's Hideaway]], all on the lower south section. Two are found in between the couch and blocks on the floor, close to a bomb rock which they can use. One is found next to a pile of raw material, accessible by going under a suitcase. Two more are found in front of this suitcase. The last one in this area is found under the table where the safe is.

Three Skutterchucks can be found in sublevel 2 of [[Plunder Palace]] in the south-west corner, behind a crystal wall.

Three Skuttchucks can also be found in sublevel 2 of [[Cradle of the Beast]], in the south-west corner containing the [[Mouth of Lies]] and adjacent to the base room. One of these Skutterchucks are on an elevated ledge.

A pair of Skutterchucks are found in [[Toggle Training]].

====Olimar's Shipwreck Tale====

Four are found in the sandy area guarding the [[Flarlic]], with two bomb rocks in the surrounding area.

Skutterchucks are the primary focus of [[Springpetal Cave]], the only level they appear in.

== Strategy ==

A single Rock Pikmin is enough to destroy the crystal if it is [[throw]]n onto it. The Skutterchuck will flinch, and another thrown directly afterward onto the now bare Skutterchuck will kill it in one hit. The second throw should come quickly after the first one, as if there's too much of a delay, the creature will flee before the second Rock Pikmin hits it.

Other Pikmin types can also be used to attack the underside of the creature. The Skutterchuck may shake them off and attempt to throw rocks onto them, but it rarely hits on time. This method takes a bit longer, and destroying all crystals with Rock Pikmin before killing the enemies leaves the Skutterchuck helpless.

It is possible to take advantage of the Skutterchuck's attack, as if the player positions a leader near another enemy, the Skutterchuck will throw its crystal at the leader, killing or damaging the other enemy in the process. Unlike other enemies that use weapons like the [[Careening Dirigibug]] in ''[[Pikmin 2]]'', the Skutterchuck is not immune to the crystal nodules it throws, so this can be used to kill other Skutterchucks if they are in the area, or even the Skutterchuck that launched the nodule.
