* I feel like "how do you feel about glitches" is a bit too vague of a question, since you could get a lot of similar (but different enough) answers to it. However, I'm not sure how you could make the question better. Midnight blue (talk) 18:37, August 28, 2021 (EDT)

* It's a good idea for a post on Reddit or a Youtube video where you can freely comment, but for a poll where you can't elaborate, it's not that good of an idea. Mama09001 (talk) 15:19, October 7, 2024 (EDT)

*** I don't like the idea of combining multiple Bulborb types into the same option. People could have pretty different opinions of the Dwarf Orange Bulborb and Orange Bulborb, for example. I think for this question to work we have to limit its scope. If it only included grub-dogs of around the same size as the basic Bulborb, it would include the (Red) Bulborb, Fiery Bulblax, Frosty Bulborb, Hairy Bulborb, Orange Bulborb, Spotty Bulbear, and Whiptongue Bulborb. I think this is a reasonable number of options. — Soprano(talk) 01:27, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
**** I agree; that's a sensible and comfortable number of options, and I think those fit best for the criteria of what an option should be for this poll. Deeb1324354657 (talk) 11:44, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
***** The other thing that needs to be decided is what order to put the options in. Should they be in alphabetical order, or the order they were introduced to the series? And should the basic Bulborb be called "Bulborb" or "Red Bulborb"? — Soprano(talk) 17:16, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
****** I think introduction order is best, but that has a key flaw; Pikmin 2 is nonlinear, so you could encounter either the Fiery Bulblax, Hairy Bulborb, or Orange Bulborb first - well, no, not necessarily; let me think. In Pikmin 2, Orange Bulborbs are only found in caves that require Yellow Pikmin to access (or are in Wistful Wild), with the exception of the Snagret Hole, but that requires Blue Pikmin or the use of glitches. Blue Pikmin are behind an electric gate, so Snagret Hole therefore cannot be reached without Yellow Pikmin, or glitches, but I think it's safe to say the vast majority of people won't be using glitches on their first playthrough (we'd be looking at first playthroughs because that's when people would encounter them first, just for complete clarification). Then there's the issue of the Wistful Wild; they can be found there, and in two of the area's caves. I'm not sure if the debt can be paid off without using Yellows or Blues (and without using enemy corpses), but I'm fairly sure it can't be, as the vast, vast majority of the Perplexing Pool would be inaccessible, the non-tutorial part of the Valley of Repose would be inaccessible, and a fair amount of the Awakening Wood wouldn't be accessible (this is just my thoughts from some quick research and my memory, so I'm not 100% sure it's correct), which restricts the player from getting quite a lot of Pokos. Why do Yellow Pikmin matter here, you ask (you probably already know, you're the second-in-command on the most comprehensive Pikmin internet database to ever exist) - the Fiery Bulblax has to be fought (or at least seen, maybe there's a way to get past it without killing it but I don't recall that being possible sans-glitches) for Yellow Pikmin to be discovered, and Yellow Pikmin have to be discovered for Orange Bulborbs to be encountered (unless the player goes out of their way to grind enemies for hours so they can repay the debt). So it's essentially undeniable that the Fiery Bulblax will be found before the Orange Bulborb would be, as well as the Hairy Bulborb, as it is in caves that require Blues (or are in the Wistful Wild). So we can be certain that Fiery Bulblaxes are the first-encountered new-introduced Bulborb in Pikmin 2. As for what goes next, it's not certain the player will encounter either one first, but Hairy Bulborbs require Yellows and Blues to be discovered, but Orange Bulborbs only require Yellows to be discovered (again, they can both be found in Wistful Wild, but this is much less likely and shouldn't really be taken into consideration), so I think Orange Bulborbs should go first. In summary: I believe the order should be (Red) Bulborb, Spotty Bulbear, Fiery Bulblax, Orange Bulborb, Hairy Bulborb, Whiptongue Bulborb, and Frosty Bulborb.
As for whether or not we should call it the "Red Bulborb" or the "Bulborb"... hmm. Both sides have good reasons for themselves; they are called Bulborbs in the most recent entry in the series, but just calling them Bulborbs would make them a tad less distinct from the other entries, which *could maybe* cause a bit of confusion. I don't know; I think the vast majority of people would know what we mean if we just say "Bulborb", especially since it's been officially called that for the last eleven years, and it's likely that those who've played the games where it wasn't called that would know the difference. "Red Bulborb" offers complete and utter eradication of any chance of misinterpretation, but "Bulborb" is more official and still makes perfect sense.
Additionally, maybe there can be an "Other" option, just so the people who'd prefer types that are left out can have something to pick? Deeb1324354657 (talk) 18:40, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
******* Alternatively, we could just use Piklopedia order, which would put the Pikmin 2 types in the order Hairy Bulborb, Orange Bulborb, and Fiery Bulblax. I also agree that using "Bulborb" instead of "Red Bulborb" is a better idea. I don't think there should be an "Other" option because it's better to limit the poll to just a few comparable types. Between the introduction order and the alphabetical order, I think the alphabetical order looks slightly better, but that's just my opinion. — Soprano(talk) 19:19, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
******** It seems to come down to subjectivity; I think it's nice that both start with "Bulborb" at the top, but I generally think in a linear manner, so having one introduced in 4 with two 2 ones on the side is less favourable to me. Deeb1324354657 (talk) 20:22, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
* Some people have mentioned the idea of changing this question to be about which type they'd rather have as a pet. That would work as a poll, but the original question would also work as a poll. So should this be split into 2 poll ideas? — Soprano(talk) 17:16, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
** Don't you think they'd be a bit too similar? I feel like they'd be mutually exclusive, no? Or at least require over a year before the other is used.
I personally think that, if one is used, it should be the one about which is preferred as a pet; I feel like that has the most personality, and is kind of quirky which is a nice trait most polls don't have. Deeb1324354657 (talk) 18:40, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
*** They would have to be asked a while apart. Considering some of the people who've supported this idea have specifically mentioned the pet rewording, I've changed the wording of this question from "What is your favorite Bulborb type?" to "Which Bulborb type would you rather have as a pet?". Another Bulborb poll can be proposed in the future as a separate poll idea. — Soprano(talk) 19:19, October 6, 2024 (EDT)

** Why wouldn't it be possible to ask? Perhaps it can be rephrased to make it more subjective-sounding; that might work better. If it were to say "How many areas do you prefer in a Pikmin game?" that could offer a nice way for participants to state how dense they prefer areas to be. Deeb1324354657 (talk) 16:58, October 5, 2024 (EDT)

*** Pikmin 4 recontextualizes the question quite a bit. But I guess it would still be possible to ask. I don't think that wording would be an improvement; the idea behind the original wording is for people to imagine what their ideal Pikmin game would be like and how many areas it would have. It could potentially be changed though. — Soprano(talk) 01:27, October 6, 2024 (EDT)

*** I mean, what does the first sentence really add? If anything, it just makes the topic a bit harder to understand, considering its wordiness. I think "What do you think about enemy variants?" with the example in parentheses that Espyo wrote is perfectly fine (perhaps it can say Bulborb variants instead, as Bulborbs appear with variants in more games than Dweevils do, so less-dedicated fans would know more about their variants; the only way someone would not know what this is asking is if they've only played Pikmin, which is unlikely because most newer fans play newer games). It perfectly explains what it's asking, and essentially just converts the first sentence into a more concise example. Deeb1324354657 (talk) 17:28, October 5, 2024 (EDT)

** It's definitely not bad; most of these enemies can be pretty irritating. I do think the Dessicated Skitter Leaf is only a big pain in deathless runs, but its camouflage definitely justifies it here regardless of the playthrough type. Why is the Flighty Joustmite on here, though? I've heard maybe one or two content creators voice their distaste for it, but to me it's literally just a Joustmite with wings, but arguably easier due to its incapacitation when its proboscis gets stuck in the ground; wait for that to happen and throw some Pikmin at its backside, the end. That placement makes very little sense to me.
On the topic of adding more, do you think it'd be fair to add the Mysterious Life Form? The fact that it gives chase can make it kind of pesky (though I suppose it's possible any annoyance it might bring is overshadowed by the terror it can cause). How about Phosbat Pods? I don't personally have any issues with them, but maybe their repetitive enemy spawning might be thought of that way... eh, on second thought, probably not. I'd say the Puffy Blowhog can be kind of irritating, but it's not nearly as bad as it is in the first game, so I don't think it needs to be on there. The last two I might think about considering are the Swooping Snitchbug (though, like the Puffy Blowhog, it's much worse in 1 due to its ability to wander) and the Waddlepus, as they both can disjoint your squad a bit, but otherwise, I think the list is fine. That was just me going through the list of all enemies in that game to check for possibilities; do you have anything to say on those? Deeb1324354657 (talk) 18:37, October 5, 2024 (EDT)

* I think this poll runs into the issue of too many possible options, as in my opinion as Pikmin 3's enemy cast is filled with annoying foes. From ones that are hard to hit, to ones with utterly unfairly fast shake-offs, there's a lot to go around. Some ones that I'd nominate are the Waddlepus, Puffy Blowhog, Water Dumple, Medusal Slurker, and Toady Bloyster, and if all those are included, the number of options inflates drastically. There's also the issue of this being a very subjective topic; one that I don't think really works with Pikipedia's poll format. -Gulliblepikmin 19:28, October 5, 2024 (EDT)

# Asking any multiple choice question with blowhogs (family) is a bad idea, becuce there's some types that does/doesn't count for various Reasons, like the Blowhog (species) only being in Pikmin adventure and not blowing something, the Telescoping Pumphog not having "blowhog" in their name, and the Tusked Blowhog not being in the Blowhog family. ** I agree; Pikmin Adventure probably lacks the popularity necessary for this to be deemed usable, as it was released twelve years ago for a fairly overlooked console. Deeb1324354657 (talk) 23:55, October 5, 2024 (EDT)

# (Nominator:) Bosses are an integral part of every main-series Pikmin game, and there have been polls asking one's favourite boss for other games in the series, so I found it surprising that there hasn't been one on this entry. Pikmin has a fairly diverse selection of bosses, as well as an amount of them that isn't unprecedented for a poll, so I don't see why this question shouldn't be asked. There isn't too much more to this; I'm quite frankly surprised it hasn't been suggested earlier, unless there's some big flaw I'm failing to acknowledge. Deeb1324354657 (talk) 00:13, October 6, 2024 (EDT)

* This is my first poll suggestion; how might we go about sorting the options? I know it's not too big of a deal, but I listed them here alphabetically. I was going to list them in the order they might be encountered, but quickly realised that isn't constant through all playthroughs, so I think an alphabetical listing is optimal, but I'd like to hear other means of/the standards for listing the options if anyone has anything to say! Deeb1324354657 (talk) 00:13, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
** An alphabetical list is probably the best way when there isn't an official order. — Soprano(talk) 01:27, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
* The problem with this question is that there isn't a single definition of what counts as a boss in Pikmin. Different people count different enemies as bosses, so someone looking at the poll could wonder why an enemy they consider to be a boss isn't an option, and someone else could wonder why an enemy they don't consider to be a boss is an option. — Soprano(talk) 01:27, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
** I just used the list in :Category:Pikmin 1 bosses, but I see how that might be a bit confusing. Looking at the list of enemies right now, here are my thoughts on the ones not listed as bosses:
*** Breadbug: Maybe someone could call this a boss, but I've always just thought of it as a rare enemy. There's only one, but it hardly poses a threat to Pikmin; I doubt many people would think this is one, especially if they know the series well.
*** Bulborb/Fiery Blowhog/Puffy Blowhog/Spotty Bulbear/Water Dumple/Wollyhop/Yellow Wollyhop: All of these enemies are the beefier, tougher ones out of the game's selection, but there are multiple of them wherever they appear, so I'd find it hard to mistake any of them for a boss.
*** Dwarf Bulbear/Dwarf Bulbear/Male Sheargrub/Shearwig: These all have strength in numbers, but definitely couldn't be thought of as bosses due to their small size.
*** Female Sheargrub/Honeywisp/Iridescent Flint Beetle/Wolpole: All of these are harmless or actively serve to help the player, need I say more?
*** Swooping Snitchbug: These are really just nuisances and hardly pose a threat in terms of Pikmin casualties.
*** Pearly Clamclamp: This is really the only one that I could see being thought of as a boss. Aside from the Goolix and Mamuta, it's the only enemy in The Impact Site, and can be fairly threatening. However, there are multiple, so I've never really thought of it as one.
:: Of course, criteria for what people think of as bosses differs from person to person, but I think a general thing is a more difficult enemy that is used sparingly by the devs and always serves to impede the player from reaching what they protect. The Breadbug, a Puffy Blowhog, and a Pearly Clamclamp drop a ship part, but the latter two aren't the only ones of their kind that appear in their areas, and also either can't directly harm Pikmin or can't harm them unless they're directly attacked, which isn't incredibly threatening like a boss should be. This leaves the Breadbug, which I have never lost a single Pikmin to, and even in the instance where Pikmin are in danger of being lost to it, they can be very easily recovered as the Breadbug is dragging whatever they're carrying to its hole. That's the only entry I think could really be perceived as a boss, but its page here considers it an enemy, as does the majority of the community, to my knowledge. I know that list was not necessary, but I just wanted to comprehensively address the possibility of there being confusion. This obviously won't change anything about the actions of the participants of the poll, but does it make it a bit more acceptable for use?
I just realised that the Mamuta might not be collectively thought of as a boss, however, which might cause confusion. Deeb1324354657 (talk) 11:44, October 6, 2024 (EDT)

# (Nominator:) I think it might be nice to see how dedicated your average fan of the series is, in terms of how many games they've sought the entirety of (entirety of the main story, at least). Of course, this wouldn't be the most spectacular or ingenious poll ever, but I don't think it's necessarily bad; perhaps it could work in a poll-drought situation similar to the ones we've been dealing with as of late. Deeb1324354657 (talk) 00:36, October 6, 2024 (EDT)

* My original title for this was "How many main-series Pikmin games have you played?", but I changed the last word to "beaten" for more clarity; it could cause confusion on what is meant by "played" in this context; does playing a few Bingo Battle matches at a friend's house count, or does completing the game count? Ultimately, I meant the latter, so I altered the title to this. Maybe another poll can be made such as "How many main-series Pikmin games do you own?", but I doubt that'd be too interesting, or at least not as interesting as this one, and would very likely be mutually exclusive with it. This comment is very much just an evolution of my ideas that no one really needs to see, but if anyone has any suggestions for a possible title change, I'd like to hear them! Deeb1324354657 (talk) 00:36, October 6, 2024 (EDT)

** I didn't put that much thought into them, so that's understandable; what do you think should be fixed? Deeb1324354657 (talk) 11:44, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
*** I think all options should be in the same format, and they shouldn't be able to be confused with the names of games. Would "One of them", "Two of them", "Three of them", and "Four of them" be good wordings? — Soprano(talk) 17:16, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
**** Good point, those could be a bit confusing. I think those look great, but could we do "All four of them" for the final option? I feel like just "Four of them" makes it seem like there's more than four, or something like that. Deeb1324354657 (talk) 18:47, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
***** I considered that but wasn't sure about it, so since you've suggested the same thing, I'll implement it. I've changed the options now (they were previously "Just one", "Two", "Three", and "All of them"). — Soprano(talk) 19:19, October 6, 2024 (EDT)
