Nintendo is a video-game company that was founded in September 1889 as a manufacturer of a card game called Hanfuda. One of Nintendo's current products is the Pikmin series of games, which number two GameCube games along with their New Play Control! releases, and a third (Pikmin 3) on the way.  These games are played on Nintendo consoles, the Wii and GameCube. Other popular Nintendo franchises include Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, Kirby, F-Zero and Pokémon.

The first Pikmin game, titled p1, was released in 2001 as a technical demo of the GameCube's abilities. Following generally positive reviews, Nintendo developed a sequel, p2, and have since developed 2 additional games in the main series, p3 and p4. In addition, they have published the 2017 spinoff title hp, co-developed the 2021 mobile app pb, published rereleases of the first 3 main games, and added Pikmin content to the Wii U game Nintendo Land and the Super Smash Bros. series. Because of this, many references to the company and its properties appear in the form of treasures.
The first game, Pikmin, was released in 2001 in North America and Japan, and in 2002 in Europe. The sequel to Pikmin, Pikmin 2, was released in 2004. The New Play Control! version of Pikmin was released in 2008 in Japan and 2009 everywhere else. New Play Control! Pikmin 2 was released in 2009 in Japan, Europe and Australia; the given date of release in North America is also 2009.
